As of yesterday, she is still sedated. I don't think it looks good.

I don't even have a passport (have to renew it) and right now flying down to Honduras is not in the cards.

If she pulls through this, I am going to hit Travelocity and lookup tickets for December. That'll give me time to get my passport and traveling $$$.

I'll be making a call later on tonight to hopefully get a hold of my mom and get the latest updates.

UPDATE

So after 9 days being sedated, they finally stabilized her enough to allow her to wake and she finally opened her eyes today.

However she's still weak and unresponsive, and being in the I.C.U. she's only allowed a few minutes' worth of visitation.

They stabilized her sodium, potassium, blood pressure, and removed about 1liter of fluid from each lung. However she's not breathing properly still.

The doctor hopes that - unless she has a relapse - she can be moved out of the I.C.U. in 2 or 3 days.

This is good to hear/know. Send her our org.love and let her know we are still praying/pulling for her.

Glad she is doing a bit better.

Well, the latest is just more of the same.

She is still in the I.C.U., and still only semi-responsive.

According to the doctor it's "one step forward, two steps back" right now.

Tomorrow is her 94th birthday (Why'd I think she was 92?).

My mom sounds really dejected on the phone.

But thank you all for the positive vibes. It truly is greatly appreciated.

Well everyone...not much to say anymore.

Grandma is past the worst of it, but she apparently isn't in a good state. She's awake but not really alert. Not going to say that she's a vegetable but that's what they're making it sound like.

They are considering sending her home, but only because there's no real improvement and the stay is horrendously expensive (no such thing as insurance down there).

So right now they're fixing up her room at her house so that she'll be more comfortable. My mom has taken a disability leave of absence from her job b/c she plans on being there until either she fully recovers or, uhm, whatever.

I'll decide within the next week or two whether or not I plan a trip (finally after THIRTY years!) depending on what happens. Maybe Thanksgiving week or something.

it's great that she's well enough to go home.. if u can u must try to visit her, she's 92 afterall! my old nan used to say bring me flowers while i'm alive, i don't want them when i'm dead!

They're taking her home NOT because she's better, but because they can't afford the hospital anymore.

They say it's really just a matter of time.

Mom's prepared to stay a few months down there...see this thing through the end.
