I saw "Chicago" today I really loved it! I give it **** 1/2
One of the best I have seen all year. It was VERY ODD to see Richard Gere singing in a musical. Rene Zellweger (sp?) really surprised me with her voice, dancing and believable portrayal of Roxie. I think she is going to be remembered for this performance along with Jerry Maguire and Bridgette Jones. I particularly liked the "puppet" scene. Catherine Zeta was good too, but Rene was definitely the show stopper. By the way, I saw the stage production too here in Sydney when it was on. If you saw this movie, what did you think? Catherine Zita Jones Did you actually see the movie? It kicks "Moulin Rouge"'s arse. I usually don't like musicals all that much, but this was different. It was classy and funny and entertaining.

I saw Chicago yesterday and I thought it was very well produced and the actors really gave it their ALL. I went in thinking that Richard Gere would not be able to sing well or pull it off. Hush my mouth! He was good as well as ALL of the actors.
I enjoyed the scene where all of the female inmates were telling what they had done to end up in prison. The dance scene as well as the story of each woman was sooo entertaining and some were very funny. I agree the puppet scene was great too. Rene Zellwegger was excellent. To me she seems sooo introverted during interviews and to really see her take this role and make you believe she was Roxie was amazing. She put so much energy, and confidence into this part. It's difficult to believe that she could dance and sing so well. Catherine Zeta-Jones, moved like a sleek jungle cat in most of her dance sequences. She looked puuurrrfect. The number with Velma and Roxie at the end was cute. I couldn't decide who looked better in the fur coat,Catherine or Rene. It was close, but I think Rene looked beautiful. Let's not forget the tommy guns. Cellophane Man was also sung well. I didn't think the actor could make it sound that good. He truly was a see thru man waiting to be used and thrown away. I felt sad for the poor sap. I was pissed off that I missed Queen Latifa's singing performance as mama. I was having a bout this a stomach problem that day and had to exit to use the restroom. I heard that her song performance was quite sexy. I think when Chicago comes out on video I'm going to rent it,so I can see the 5 minutes that I missed. I really hate missing any part of a movie. If you like musicals, go see it. I think you will be truly satisfied with it. 2 thumbs up 4 Chicago.

Tonguebox - Queen Latifah was excellent as Mama...she really surprised me with her powerful voice (mainly because she is a former rapper and rappers are generally not known for their good singing voices). Her song was...I don't know about sexy, but it was very well done.

Did you ever see Living Out Loud? Latifah was really good in that, that's when I knew she could really sing. I expected her to do well in Chicago based on her Living Out Loud performance & she didn't let me down, she was great

I think you should go see it again I've seen it twice & appreciated it so much more the 2nd time, the film is kickass plain & simple. I know everyone is raving about Zelleweger (sp?) but I REALLY hope Catherine Zeta Jones gets an award of some sort for her role in this film. Yes, Rene had more to do BUT Catherine KILLED Velma Kelly! Her energy was SO on, she's a GREAT dancer, the attitude, the eyes - flawless. Dammit, she killed it...

GO, ROS!! Don't go to the bathroom either, lol! The "He Had It Comin'!" number was the best in the film, IMO. Very strong, killer choreography & dancing, great direction throughout the film. I think I'm in love with this movie

I saw it as well and thought it was pretty bad. There wasnt enough thought given 2 character development. No emotion and no heart.

Now that I've seen it, I feel I can adequately address the topic.
I agree, the Tango of the 6 Marys is the best number. "He ran into my knife...10 times." LOL!!! As far as character development, this wasn't some long drawn out story where each character's entire background was intricate to understanding who they were at the moment. So in that respect, the "lack of development" was equal across the board. But it wasn't really necessary, either. You got the idea of what each person was about in a very short amount of time. And all of the law-types out there will enjoy the nuances of the courtroom scenes. I laughed out loud when The Tapdance was introduced. I'm still surprised at Richard Gere's performance. I understand now why he wasn't nominated...his character really isn't a leading man or support. It's kinda in-between. This was an excellent show. I'm going to see it again.
