To all the moms out there... I made this.

I made this because I was challenged to come up with something fast for a Horizon Organic Milk tv commercial contest. They said they liked my wacky superbowl commercial contest entries for Doritos and wanted me to make something funny for the milk ad contest.

Well, after I read a message board of moms on Horizon's website, I concluded that they would not give a shit about the superbowl style humor that works for drunken dudes.

So I made this! I drew all the pictures myself. But what's more is I made the music and it's like nothing I've done before.

I actually started by thinking of the chord progression in Prince's "Pop Life" and then came up with this music.

Watch it, and if you like it, please vote:

I saw it - very nice. Music's good too, matches the mood.

My only concern is that it's a little bit of a downer. I've seen ads for parents w/ a similar theme, but they focus more on the happiness of being together now, and less on the idea that you'll be sad when they grow up. Even if it's mentioned, it's more indirect, and they get back to the happy real quick.

I was just talking to another mom today about how they seem to grow up so fast, and she cut me off, saying don't even talk about that to me! My intuition tells me that parents, especially mommies, don't like the idea of their kiddos leaving them.

Well, the theme of the contest was the Mom's back to school blues. That's why it has that mention of depression. You're right, it goes heavy, and they originally invited me to participate because of my funny commercial demos like this one http://www.vimeo.com/8917149

They asked for something funny.

But funny comedy just didn't fit for this one in my opinion. I knew I was drifting away from what they asked. But if I don't go where I want to, then it's no fun to make it. That's why I DONT work for an advertising agency.

I decided to go there to make it more solid and emotional based on real discussions on the "mom" message board. I wanted to get meaningfuly under the skin of the target audience as an artistic goal. But I do think I brought it back up at the end, and pointed to the milk as a marketing goal!

The reality is I didn't have time to finish this. I spent one day on the sound and one day on the drawings. I didn't get to color it or animate it. That would have taken one more day. Maybe I should finish it just for my portfolio.

It literally uploaded in the last minute before the deadline!

^ No need to "apologize" - it was good! Not many people can make something like that, w/ original music, animation, everything.

Just giving a mom's perspective, though. I actually buy Horizon milk for my kids' lunches, and I have to admit that your clip kinda made me go ... "(sigh)...they sure do grow up fast... (sigh)...well, at least I can give them organic milk - sniff, sniff..WAAH! (sobbing)."

So I don't know if Horizon would want to go w/ an ad that makes their consumer feel melancholy when handling their product. But on the other hand, you sure made something memorable & atmospheric!

But now I have my own question for other parents out there, don't know if it belongs in General Discussion or Music and More...
