First I waited for the cats to just get used to each other, but it has been months

then I (and at least one other neighbor) started throwing cups of water

then I got a squirt gun

this morning I chased it away

neutral

Now, is it any wonder that it runs away when anyone approaches?

Its seems like its a cat thats unloved, uncared for and left to fend for itself.

If it hasnt been spayed or neutered it will either be fending off the attentions of all the male tom cats in the vacinity, or fighting for territory and food. Show a bit of compassion

sad

no of course not, but we would not do that if it did not harass all the cats who actually live in this building (and the people too) This cat does not live here, it should not be beating up all the cats who do.

I love cats, and I have listened to this go on for months and months without getting a bb gun, poison, or calling animal control. I have compassion. I am not mad at the cat, I am mad at its owners or whoever abandoned it if that is the case.

But the cat is a problem.

An update

I called Animal Control. They accept cats but they don't trap them. I was not surprised by this, but I asked him if he had any suggestions, he said no. I asked if he knew of any additional resources, he said no. Did he have any thoughts or insights as an expert in the field? No. He seemed to be very pleased that he could be of no use, so I asked him if he was not allowed to answer questions for some reason.

I did get this spray. I could not find the coyote urine, but this other stuff called Liquid Fence that the cats don't like supposedly. I'm not sure, I think they don't like it but it only keeps them like one foot away.

Anyway the whining has been on and off the past few mornings. What's sad is I noticed the cat has a large cut on its back leg confused Poor thing has clearly been abandoned.

There are a lot of cats around my building, and the owners let them go outside.

Mostly they co-exist peacefully, but there is this one cat that does not even seem to belong to anyone at our building, and it just cannot seem to accept the others.

Every morning it comes near my window and begins to howl at one of the others.

6 in the morning, waking up to yowling cat is not my favorite alarm

WTF do I do?

We have a great group here called Friends of Ferals ~ they will come trap ... take care of and house / foster the cats ...

Yeah I could look into one of those kind of groups. My gf used to feed the ferals in the area through a group like that. They had specific sanctioned food stations for them.

I do not think ours feed loose/free roaming cats ( outdoor in the public areas ) they capture / spay / neuter ... it's a no kill group and they have a huge shelter

Take it to the humane society or local no-kill shelter.

Then someone can give it a lovely home and it won't bother you again.

how do I get it there? It runs away when anyone approaches

There are safe traps that you can use to capture a cat. It will not kill the cat or hurt it. If you put food into the cage and the cat goes in, the door will close behind it, and viola! You have your cat trapped and ready for relocation.

yes, and from what I've been told, they're pretty effective. smile A couple of years back, there was an all-black stray cat that used to hang around here. It also was very hard to catch, but once the trap with the bait was set up, the cat was captured. Last I heard, the cat was living on a farm somewhere.

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Live traps work well ... we used them where I grew up ~ also in Montana and here as well

I did consider that, but I would definitely have to get my neighbors on board, because there are a lot of cats around here, and I think some people would be upset if I caught their cat.

But it's not out of the question, this cat does harass their cats
