I've always been fascinated by this.

I don't think the butch lesbians are pretending to be anything, actually.

It's just that they have a strong liking to masculine clothing, hair, and appearance,

but very much see themselves as women, but with 'strong' qualities.

Of course, this doesn't explain why they wear men's levis, tend to have

masculine facial features (noses, mouths, etc.), dress in the most

god aweful cheap-ass tennis shoes.

I've alwys found it perplexing that Toms attract 'school girls' who

seem to be very much into them. I figure if you 'go lesbian', you'd

be looking for a "woman".

Gay men seem to be more varied here in their forms of expression

and partnering. Masculine ones often only hookup with masculine ones,

I believe out of choice, while feminine ones tend to settle for

other feminine ones but fantasize about masculine ones.

Very few cross the line between feminine behavior and 'dressing'

as girls would. For example, no gay man would want to wear

heals or perm their hair---only Prince could be that gay.

I don't know about food. Most of us have grown up with certain foods as part of our family/culture and some foods we avoid for health reasons/allergies while others produce chemical reactions in the body and create cravings e.g. sugar or caffeine.

A gay person being attracted to another gay person that dresses up and acts like the opposite sex is weird when you think about it; unless we're talking drag performance and something one does as part of their job. I don't think that's what Gray is referring to though.

Maybe it's not a perfect analogy, but with food I just meant something like "why don't I like olives?" I just don't no real reason.

Honestly, a woman being attracted to a masculine woman makes more logical sense to me, because there is no logical reason for homosexuality IMO. I mean that in terms of evolution, survival of the species. But using that logic, there is no reason for a guy to want to come on a woman's boobs But they do! So why ask why? We're all illogical, even Spock was from time to time.

Unless a lesbian (or any woman for that matter) says she identifies as a man I wouldn't take her masculine demeanor/dress for trying to be one. There's broad spectrum of feminine and masculine in folk of both sexes.

gender is totally created. people fall in love with those who either defy those gender lines or go along with the stereotypes. but i am being idealistic but i feel people are attracted to others because of personality and or wonton desires.

Can you give me a list of characteristics/behaviors that make a thing a “man” or “woman”

Ones sex and ones gender are not one in the same. There is also a difference in gender identity,

gender expression, gender, sexual orientation, and sex. Not everyone is sic gender. The same goes for men.

I once dated a guy who considered himself a woman, wore “women’s” clothing and makeup, but also fixed cars, lifted weights, watched football, had facial hair (all things associated with the male gender), and strictly dated women. He considered himself a fem lesbian and would even use the women’s restroom even though he still had all of his male parts.

Fem and masculinity are expressions or performances just like anything else. Some people like some performances better than others. There is also the fact that many lesbians simply don’t like the male body, the dick, and love the pussy/breasts. When those clothes come off, whether it’s a dress or a pair of baggy jeans and a wife beater, the pussy and breasts are still waiting for their lover’s attention.

I’m personally into the more “boi” or andro look. Extremely fem women do not catch my attention at all.
