Asians Failing at British Accents Apparently there's this new craze of Asians posting videos of themselves on webpages trying to speak English with a British accent.
Now, let me just state.... these are non-native English Asians. Not, "Americanized" asians who've been raised in English speaking households.
These are Asians straight off the boat, or still on their homeland.
Here's an extremely beautiful Japanese boy trying and failing at it. (THEY ALL FAIL AT IT)
Yes, I know this thread will fail. But
I. DON'T...

I'm not sure either. In general, the Asians here get really confused by the British accents, while they don't mind the Australian and prefer the American.
I find this perplexing because except for the really rednecky Australian sounding folks, I tend to find little difference between Aussie accents and some British ones.

Why? It's cute and funny when ppl mangle a foreign language or have a quirky accent. Languages are fun to learn, can be very useful, but they can also be a source of much amusement. I make comical errors in Thai, for example, as does my wife in English. Last night she said I was "on the fire!" I think he means that as a white guy he can't post the same content and get away with it. While I, as a 'minority' can.
And his argument is valid. I get away with a bit more than Dave does.
But, it could also be that I'm better liked, far more popular, and have slept with 80% of the mods in this forum.

Really? I've found big city folks, from Melbourne in particular it seems, sometimes don't have a strong Aussie accent and don't sound too different to some English ppl. Generally though I think most have a pretty distinctly different accent. MY COUSIN WORKS IN A PHARMACY AND SHE SAID THEY ENEMA'D PRANCE INTO OBLIVION WITH FENTONILS!!

But, you have to remember, that I have an American ear, so it sometimes (though much much less lately) confuses me.
It's sort of like how I used to confuse Polish, German, and Russian accents. They're not really close, but to an American ear they sometimes are.
I used to really have no way of hearing Thai vs. Isarn vs. Burmese Now, I couldn't possibly confuse them.

I can tell Thai accents apart by the fact that I don't understand half of what non-Bangkokians say. I can be awesome sometimes around ppl who are either family and friends I speak to regularly or who sound like them, but lost around fast-speaking folks from up-country. Isn't it about ppls' intentions? Naturally, knowing ppl for longer allows one to know and understand their intentions. If those intentions include showing a willingness to sleep with moderators, all the better to grease the wheels of understanding. But some of it is definitely about time and familiarity, as I said. If another member, or a mod in the case of being reported, knows where you're coming from and where you're not, they may see something you post in a different light. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing at all, to know ppl better and be able to use more discretion. Sucks for a newbie but then it's always going to be that way, isn't it. It's hard to know someone's intentions until you get to know them much better. MY COUSIN WORKS IN A PHARMACY AND SHE SAID THEY ENEMA'D PRANCE INTO OBLIVION WITH FENTONILS!!
