Staying in the Kitchen? Ordering In? Going Out? What's on Your Menu This Weekend?

Started grocery shopping last night to get a start on prepping meals for the week, but really only got enough inspiration (and food) to go until Monday-Tuesday. Thinking of heading out again to pick up a pork roast, pancetta (for potatoes), red wine and cake ingredients. What are you cooking this weekend? Will you skip the kitchen and order in? Will you head out to eat with the fam, or get together with girls? Whether you're makin' souflee or reservations tonight, tell us what's cookin' on your side of town! foodnow hug foodnow

I normally have to cook food for my kids that doesn't TOUCH - you know, like separates, pile of pasta, steamed vegies, cut up meat, some raw vegies etc. NO sneaky sauce hiding yukky ingredients rolleyes dead

SO, tonight, since I'm home ALL ALONE excited I'm marinating some beef strips in soy and garlic and chilli drool which I'll have stir-fried with some vegies ALL MIXED TOGETHER excited served over rice cool

The rest of the week can suck it talk to the hand

Best Merguez Lamb Sausage, Long 4.2-4.6 lb. you can buy on sale online.

Last night I bought some French Marguez sausage...it's a Moroccan style sausage made of lamb with spicy harissa paste inside...I don't know what I'm going to do with it yet...maybe serve it with cous cous, peppers, almonds, and eggplant... or maybe make 'em as part of a savory crepe dish.

If I don't use those today, I might go for the old weekend standby of making Indian food: there's some chicken breast in the freezer that needs to be used up...so it could turn out that I might go for Chicken Kadai:

Kadai Chicken

http://www.sashirecipes.com/kadai-chicken.html

I'm having mad chocolate cravings so I'd like to bake a chocolate torte todayChocolate Ganache Torte

But 2 weeks ago old dude went sailing with his uncle, and his auntie sent him back with a box full of apples and pears from the orchards on the property where they live. In the olden days it used to be massive country estate from the aristocracy, but has been broken up into smaller homes like a pristine little suburban village with gardens and fruit trees and hens...and visiting them in fall means that a big old U-Haul size box shows up at my door with enough fruit to feed my neighborhood dead for the last two weekends I've made traditional German Apfelkuchen...

- Apfelkuchen

but I need a change! I'm trying not to do the torte because I already have apples and I'm pushing myself to be as frugal as possible this year. But I really do want to bake something with chocolate smile

Yes! I used to HATE ocra, but the Indians have found a way to make it absolutely delicious for me.

It REALLY compliments the masala, and I've had it at 3 different restaruants now, and it was

delicious at all 3.

So Bhendi Masala is a hit by my book! lol

You've GOT to try the Rajma. I swear it makes vegan chilli look like it's cheap, slutty best friend.

And some Rajma that's so good, it'll make you want to go home and slap yo momma.

I think I just found a workable recipe that's not too difficult, but since I'm a lazy ass I'd try it with canned kidney beans instead foodnow

RAJMA (RED KIDNEY BEANS) RECIPE

Rajma

Ingredients:

2 cups Rajma ( Red kidney beans)
Salt To taste
1 Pinch Turmeric powder
1 Onions, chopped
5 Garlic cloves, chopped
1 inch Ginger, chopped
3 Green chillies, chopped
3 Tomatoes, chopped
1/2 tsp Corainder powder
1 tsp Red chilli powder
1/2 tsp Garam masala
2 tbsp Oil
Handful Corainder leaves
Preparation:

  • Soak rajma overnight. Wash and pressure cook the rajma. Keep aside.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add ginger, garlic and chillies. Fry until they turn brown.
  • Add onions and tomatoes. Cook until masala separates from oil.
  • Add salt, turmeric powder and mix well.
  • Add the boiled rajma, red chilli powder, corainder powder, garam masala and stir.
  • Simmer the flame and cook until a thick gravy is formed.
  • Remove from fire. Garnish rajma with corainder leaves and serve hot with chapatis or rice.

Last night I had a huarachazo for dinner:

It's a masa cake filled with beans and topped with tomato, onion, radish, peppers, mushroom, avocado and a bit of cheese and sour cream. (Normally it has meat on it too, but I leave that out.) And red and green salsa on the side. YUM!

And I had a bit of trifle from the super awesome bakery in my building - chocolate cake pieces w/salted caramel sauce topped with chocolate mousse and sprinkles of chocolate chip cookies. double YUM!

This morning I had a boring breakfast of cereal and greek yogurt. I have a wedding reception this afternoon, so not sure what all that will entail.

Don't worry I make it with canned kidney beans all the time! I usually serve it with jeera (cumin) rice or buttered rotis but it tastes great with any Indian breads or rice. Also if you like coriander, as I do, the fresh coriander garnish is a must, it works so well with all the flavours.

You know, we men cook, too. hmm Although, techically, I supposed I could get together with girls and cook, too. hmmm

Roasting sweet potatoes and making my seasonal favorite grilled chicken dish. Might do my sauteed green beans, while I'm at it.

I might go out with some friends tomorrow; it's been a minute since I hit a restaurant.

I've totally lost my groove when it comes to cooking chicken. I seem to keep doing the same 5 versions of roast chicken, and then panfried or grilled chicken breast (not very heavily seasoned). I think I've hit a chicken slump wing pout

That's why I save this chicken dish for autumn. I understand.

But the old pasta sauce line has me worried. I was told toss after 2 weeks. pout

Oh yes, 2 weeks is definitely long enough. I usually go up to a week before I toss mine lol !

But a tomato sauced pasta that's maybe 2 or 3 days in the fridge--- actually a tomato sauced anything drooling

I usually have Saturday's Indian leftovers for Tuesday lunch. Since tonight's dish is a tomato based sauce, by Tuesday it's going to be mega rich and bursting with flavor from all of the spices. foodnow

I'm not hatin', I've done that before! It's usually buffalo mozerella on a rustic baguette, but it's still cheese on toast! lol

Actually here in Germany they have a food tradition called "abendbrot" or Evening Bread; when you're lazy or don't feel like cooking, you make a pot if tea, break out all kinds of bread and rolls and cheese and cured meats. We'll probably have that on Monday night.

I like to add baguettes and an assortment of cheeses. It's essentially the frou frou way of eating cheese-toast toast cheese
