That's actually Korean, not Japanese (the google banner says, "this is Korean, want to translate?" plus Korean uses a phonetic alphabet w/ circles, no slashes like Japanese or Chinese).

Lots of good horror coming out of Korea, lots of movies, I think some were remade in Hollywood - there was one about a video tape that you're not supposed to play & scary stuff coming out of a well, but I never saw it. There's a recent one reviewed on Ebert's page, a revenge tale that's supposed to be super creepy.

whoops, apologies for not knowing/seeing the difference. that was "the ring" and yeah alot of scary movies coming out of Asia these days. Usa remaking alot of them, no originality in Hollywood these days.

a couple of "revenge" asian movies i have enjoyed recently are "old boy" (based on a great manga---and yes soon to be remade in the US) and "i saw the devil"

Once I saw the weird guy with the bloody face I clicked on mute.

I've been tricked in to that scream thing too many times already.

My friend got me to play this while I was on webcam to her and she told me to put my volume up high, and I was stupid enough to listen to her..
