I felt lost in the world. Was wondering how it all came to this point.

After making a snap decision to mull it over, I vowed to search for inspiration in the words of the man who'd just walked up to me an hour ago, who'd told me it was clear I was lost. He'd said something else that I hadn't quite been able to catch that now had me intrigued, to the point where I thought about turning around to see where he'd gone, a curious thought given what followed, which was that I didn't and stayed where I was.

I knew eventually I would need to do something. But the only thing moving was the blowing wind.

Where did that man go? I promised him to blow him harder than the wind.

Like, J.R. in Dallas, I realized that it was only a bad daydream. I snapped out of it, and found myself standing there facing my front door, my hair blowing in the wind.

The wind made me feel unusually reflective and I paused where I was already standing for what must surely have been about 10 minutes, though upon later reflection would conclude was only maybe 7 or possibly 8 at the very most, until the skies started to brighten and the rain eased off to a barely discernible pitter-patter, and just like that, like the weather my mind cleared. It was obvious what had to be done, but like a child in an unzipped jacket that was rendered like an open parachute, struggling home from the park during the aforemention bad weather, I flew in the face of this obviousness by doing nothing.

I was wondering about the reality of my dream. However, the rain dripping of my face made me realize I was outside. Standing in the rain, storm and dark. Wondering about the man who convinced me I was lost. I don't know. I just didn't get it.

The growing stagnation of my state nearly overwhelming, I was relieved to see a bike leaning against the building. It was lightweight and built for speed.

"This bike will take me far from here and my troubles, and quickly so," I determined, as I prepared to pedal it.

But the truest essence of speed, I realized, was admiring its aerodynamic genius at rest, as I remained.

Which turn, which bend, which curve, which meandering corner, which snaking trail, which arduous but rewarding uphill climb towards something higher, which downhill free-wheeling descent away from here? As I surveyed the bicycle's now rusting frame I realized I might not win employee of the month back at the office, which perhaps oddly, made me feel nothing at all.

My mind wondered off. Dreaming about all those beautifull bike rides I could have been initiating. Riding fast off a mountain, feeling the wind blowing through my hair and the adrenaline rocketing through my body while taking a sharp, steep turn. The beautifull views on my way, the waterfalls, the flowers in exotic shapes and colors.

Just then I remembered my license was suspended. So a decision needed to be made. Do I just walk away, ride my bike or drive my car with a suspended license?

I realize that I must take action and go inside the house, since I feel the urge to urinate. Then again, I am wearing a pair of Depends (r) adult undergarments. shrug

But how much longer will this depends last? I've been standing out here for hours or is it days now? What's that smell?

I realized that I locked myself out. The door shut through the blowing wind and the keys are inside.

The urge is killing me. I have to act.

Absurdly, I even considered my old kayak in the garage as a possible means of escape. In a flash I thought about turning to go get it, only to stop dead in the tracks I'd not actually yet taken, remembering it wasn't a kayak but rather my dead wife wrapped in a rolled up strip of linolium flooring.

Walking over to the garage, opening the door, dragging my wife's wrapped up corpse out into the front yard, heaving it on to the flatbed of my truck and driving out to the landfill site was a course of action I toyed with over and over in my mind as I stood there. It was at that exact moment, over the course of roughly 10 minutes, that I realised the moment had passed.

The wind had kicked up tremendous speed thanks to Hurricane Irene. Ergo the more frantically I tried running towards my front door, the less ground I was making, to the point that I looked a bit like Rihanna trying to moonwalk in place.

I looked around and to my amazement he was standing near my front lawn. Again, he approached me and asked if I needed assistance. I said yes......
