Slowly starting here in Quebec, Canada. Of course we always only get the tail of it, started raining this morning, now wind is blowing near 90km/h and I just lost electricity for 15 minutes, will probably get bigger by the hours...

It's no real big deal here in New Brunswick...yet. 100km/hr winds are supposed to be hitting us according to a regional warning but I haven't seen that yet.

It's frigging muggy as all hell though.

Yaayyy smile

Lost power from late evening to this morning, but was ok when I woke up.

Thought this was supposed to last like 3 days as usual when we get the tail...

We actually have a bright, sunny day no rain!

Yeah, I love Graffiti Bridge movie, so what? ''Oooooooooooh Montreal, say it!''
If you can't be nice to someone on the net, you probably ain't worth much talking to in real life either.

Same here - just now.

Lost a 45ft tall tree, but thankfully it was back far enough that it didn't hit the house/deck/pool. Phew!

Except for a tree that tore down one of the wires in the power lines - which finally got repaired this morning - nothing TOO major. Tree limbs fell, a little river was there the day of the hurricane, and we had massive blackout lol but other than that, A-OK. smile

Luckily we didn't have to worry about a tree falling near our house though a tree did fall at the end of the road. They just finally took it down and then about a couple hours after that, the wires were fixed and the power came back on.

It reminds me when we had Klaus 2 years ago. We lost trees as well but thankfully the roof didn't get damaged. One tree crushed the kennel but we made sure there was no dogs inside. We got stuck without power for a couple of weeks.

Is there any place of refuge one can flee from this insanity

Maaan, Andrew was the "big one" before Katrina...category 5!

I remember the day before the storm my cat was walking around in circles all afternoon... eek that's when I took my ass to the store and stocked up on supplies. I called my friend and told her to get ready but she's one of them knee-grows who don't believe nothing. After the storm she called me every day whining on the phone, disbelief

Ottie is right, Andrew practically flattened nearly all of South Miami and damaged quite a bit of the rest of Dade county but Miami Beach made out pretty well. We had to evacuate where I lived at the time so we spent the night with friends in the inner city. It's bad when a hurricane hits at night 'cuz the howling wind is sooo spooky and a hurricane lasts for hours not minutes like a tornado or earthquake.

The next morning of course there was no power and the temperature rose quickly. My friends had a generator but they also had a squalling brat that they couldn't shut up so by noon I was ready to brave the streets and go home, plus I wanted to see if my place was damaged. Luckily, North Miami wasn't nearly as bad but it was an obstacle course trying to get home past all the debris and no traffic lights.

Good thing I had plenty of supplies because there was nothing to be had in the stores and the price gouging was crazy. I was able to stay home and avoid the soldiers and the nut cases on the street. At night it was pitch black outside and scary, especially when one of the light poles by our place started arcing and sending sparks all over. I kept my cool because I knew my neighbors were looking out for us but my mom really pissed me off complaining so much because she was scaring my kids...sheesh! When people say the wrong thing they always make bad situations worse. rolleyes

Anyhoo, I spent the week cooking with sterno, listening to the radio, (to this day nobody remembers the report about the chimps with AIDS that escaped from the lab except me), and taking cold showers. Thank goodness the phones worked in our area so at least I was able to yak with my friends and cowokers...every night I got tipsy and stayed on the phone. lol

We got our power restored in a week but most residents were without power for nearly a month. Bottom line, hurricanes ain't no joke folks. Try to be with people you like and trust and be sure to have some drank handy, lol

GIRL, you ain't neva lied!

We evacuated north and inland to Broward county. I remember going outside the hours before it was due to hit when allllllll was quiet. It was sooooo spooky- the skies turned an intese reddish color, and the silent stillness in the air was deafening- I was thinking 'what kinda Blade Runner end of times looking mess is this??? eek ???' Talk about calm before the storm! In those moments I knew I was abot to get into something that was waaaaaaaaaaay bigger than myself: Mother Nature ain't nonthin' to play with lol

and yes, I remember the monkeys that escaped! I know it wasn't funny then but in retrospect- Oh my lord- crazy stories like that are what make me miss Miami- there was always something CRAZY popping off that left you with stories you could tell for YEARS, and have people's eyes pop out of their head from hearing them falloff falloff falloff

Chile, I tell ya...it was a trip. It's funny how the animals always know, lol I'm so glad that somebody besides me remembers the monkeys 'cuz nobody believed me.

Everybody from S. Dade moved to West Broward even after everything was rebuilt...as if a hurricane can't get to them out there, lol

Glad it didn't cause devastation and widespread deaths as it did have the potential to. It is better to be prepared to the extent possible just in case. Been through a potential 'state of emergency' which didn't become what it was anticipated to become. I'm glad it was the case too in this instance.

Not really but to be out of power for two days (and a half) in general was a mess. That's why I wasn't online at all Sunday. Of course Saturday was prerequisite for power outage but the electricity help was SLOW than a MOTHERFUCKER. Took Monday morning to finally get that tree down and fix the line. rolleyes Still, we got a little trouble since my mama's cable box is still not on. Time Warner claimed there's an outage and they can't come down there now, whatever that is. But other than that, it wasn't bad being offline though lol hell I need to stop being online as much as I do anyfuckinways! lol

If my power went out and I didn't know when next I could recharge my phone, I would not waste the battery power I had posting on the org.

Or maybe I would. lol

Lots and lots of damage all up and down the eastern seaboard from what I've read so far this week.

Read a little bit ago that Sebastian Bach lost his house.

My family and I drove through Vermont about a month ago.....first time we had been there.

Anyway, I feel sick about all the devastation in that state...the homes, the beautiful covered bridges,

the highways......it's an amazingly beautiful state. It almost seems like they got the worst of Irene...at

least from what I heard in the news.
