That's why we vicariously live through the drama of other orgers.
Currently the ones who are dealing with Irene. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Ok, hurricane's coming in soon. I'm cleaning my room and I'm about to go shopping with my mom. Charging all my shit, cus there might be power out for quite a while. But I'm looking on the bright side: this could give me time to really get stuff done. I'm taking this opportunity to relax, get my reading/studying done, and meditate/pray more.
Hope everything is well with you guys.

I just ran out a few moments ago to pick up a bunch of candles, assuming the power may very well go out. As far as music, I'm still kickin' it OLD SCHOOL: Made sure my CD walkman has a fresh set of Duracell Ultra's. Might even break the seal on some of these CD's that have been sitting on my shelf unopened for years, in case the power goes out. All 'n' all, I'm set. I'm feeling fairly certain that Irene will soon be just another memory, and that we'll all be okay.

Don't go outside, sweety. Maybe Irene will get you a day out of school, but I do want you to finish school! Don't get injured by some stupid accident as getting something on your head that flies around due to the storm.
Cleaning is good. Studying is good. Meditating is good. Preparing for the sugarfest is good. Going outside is not good.

It's just human nature... I guess But folks need to take it seriously at the same time.

Good to hear Hope all goes well for you! Enjoy your music!
I only have my phone & laptop to listen to music, so if the power goes out long enough that and my batteries are out, I don't have any music to listen to. Kicking it new school.

Why, thank you very much for your concern . I just got back home, we got food and what not. I'm safe .
It's drizzling over here, the storm is supposed to hit later. I'm a bit more concerned about my dad: he is at his office, he's a freakin workaholic and he's stubborn and insists that he is going to be perfectly fine even though his building easily floods. He usually comes back home in the AM. I sure hope he is going to be safe .

I suppose if music is our main concern, then we're doing better than many, lol. But it's starting to get dark and ominous 'round these parts. It's about to go down. Wishing everyone the best!

Seems like it's passing fast and not staying long enough to do extensive damage. If it was slow moving then the damage might be more widespread and devastating. Or I could be wrong, haven't watched the news so much, just glimpses of it and seems like it passed over one state and now it's on to the next already.

A good portion of Long Island has been asked to evacuate.
My house is in the red zone. So regardless of whether it stays a Category 1 or 2, it's getting flooded.

I found some posts here above quite reassuring and putting things into perspective... so I'm grateful for that.
I'm living/studying in Cambridge, MA, near Boston, but I'm from Belgium [where 'rain' for us often means just drizzle (although things have been getting fiercer lately), and I have never experienced a hurricane, tornado or storm of that scale in my life - and needless to say I am scared to death!..
My mum (who is in Belgium)'s advice to me by phone: [note: my apartment is on the 3rd floor of our house]: if there is a lot of rain and floods, it's safer to seek refuge at the top floor, as high as possible; if there is a lot of wind, it's best to be on the lower, ground floor. So what do I do?!...
Btw, I wonder why all these storms and climatic cataclysms all have feminine names (Irene, Katryna, Carol, Bertha, etc...) Who gives these names? Yes I've noticed and we are not amused. Has anyone else noticed too?!
