Where is the best place to live?

I say California because the weather is nice almost all year and you can do almost anything out here. Every type of lifestyle lives here and it is very diverse culturally.

Australia. We are the second most multicultural society in the world after the US and the most egalitarian - we have the cultural diversity without all the ghettos, crime, etc.

Brilliant weather, friendly people. All the conveniences you could want.

I could go on, but I'll just say this: Australia's a top place, mate.

Toss onto that list:

* you can go swimming in the ocean, and an hour's drive later go skiing in the mountains...

* you're very likely to see Brad Pitt standing in line at the drug store scratchin' his fellas...

* lots o' nude beaches...

* there are literally dozens people on street corners handing out passes to see movies weeks before they come out, and for free...

* the women here enjoy showing off their bodies...

* the men here enjoy showing off their bodies...

* the whole damn state is so laid back...

* the drive down Pacific Coast Highway 1...

* you're practically forced to learn spanish...

* four words: televised high speed chases...

I meant to say we don't have nearly as much crime as somewhere like the US, where most people ignore it and aren't so shocked to hear about people getting shot every day.

As for bugs, it's true we have the deadliest spider in the world here in Sydney - but I've never seen one alive and they only come out in Winter. Give me bugs over being shot in a Pomona Burger King for no reason any day.

Yeah the weather does suck sometimes in cali, for instance, where I live "Central Valley" it gets as hot as 107 during the summer.

For that, I am grateful.

If I had the money, I'd move to Jamaica in a heartbeat. It is not a perfect world, but at least one does not have to deal with "american equality" that really don't exist issues. There is no such thing as living under another's will, unless that is what you want to do.

And no snow -- that's a big plus!

Yeah well I use to live in the bay area "Fremont" and it never got as hot as 107, so you know I'm miserable cause I'm not use to that kind of weather, however it does make good tanning weather.

We get ALL of this and more in Australia too, except that it takes about 3 hours to get to skiing from the beach here.

BTW I've been to the US 8 times, the UK 5 times, Japan once, France once, Fiji twice, Hong Kong once, Canada twice and all over Australia and I have to say, there's no place like Australia. They say every Australian should travel the world (we are the world's #1 travellers) just to see what it's like, so we can come back and realise that this really is "the lucky country".

Man, there are plenty of problems in Jamaica! If you want a better version of freedom and equality, try Australia or New Zealand or perhaps Canada.

It seems like the Bay always has the coolest weather of all the cities in California in the summer. I HATE hot, humid weather, but I'm glad we don't get Arizona-type weather.

I actually quite like where I live now, in the Southern
most part of The Netherlands.

Considering distances between cities in America, I guess
I live fairly close to a lot of European cities. London,
Paris and Berlin are between 1 and 1.5 hours per plain,
so they're fairly accessible.

Our town is also located at a borderpoint between 3
countries, so you have bits of culture from Germany,
Belgium and Holland, -and also Luxembourgh.

I live in a rather small town of about 10.000 people and
it's only a 15 minute drive to the north or the south to
get to two fairly big cities.

30 minutes from here there are two real big cities and so
you have the benefit of living in a rather calm erea with
still lots of options at a few minute's drive from here.

I like the fact that you can take your car and be in the
middle of all the excitement in a quarter of an hour, but
when I get home again, everything is nice and quiet.

After work I can go cycling with my dog in wide open fields
and forrests and when you take the dog out late at nite, at
about 0:00, there's never a single soul out on the streets.

The weather kind of sucks though since we have everything,
all of the time over here. from -10 to +35 celcius. But I
guess even that makes for a nice change. I don't think I'd
like sunshine all year round.
and true love lives on lollipops and crisps
