I just bought one from Amazon about five minutes ago for $99 plus tax and shipping. woot! excited They were sold out earlier, but some of the resellers are now discounting the item, so its come and go and get one as soon as you see it.

Interestingly enough, this HP touchpad fire sale could be a serious blow to all other tablets on the market not named the Apple iPad.

I bought something from Amazon this morning, and I still had this in my cart all the way up til I pressed submit for the final order, and it was still saying it was $400+.

Off to Amazon.....

Okay, just tried, and I'm still getting charged $400+ even at the last minute. It was only available through 3rd party sellers, and the lowest one was $390-something. Do you have the link that you used?

Here are the links:

16 GB ($99)

32 GB ($149)

http://www.amazon.com/HP-...amp;sr=1-3" target="_blank">http://www.amazon.com/HP-...amp;sr=1-3

When I clicked on the $99 tablet link, it showed full price, but I checked other deals on the side of the page, and it listed the $99 tablet.

Apparently, that is the case; there's no Netflix app for the device. sad And since HP is giving up on the device, there probably won't be any app for it either. However, there are a few developers who are already working on reverse enginerring the device to port the Android OS to it. biggrin

Considering all of the bugs and limitations of the device, I can see why it didn't sell at the $400 range, but for $99 it's a great bargain, even if there are no updates. You get a dedicated internet tablet, e-reader, and music player in one device that costs less than the typcial smartphone and isn't a cheap Chinese knockoff.

Yeah, I thought that too. But according to Amazon, it is the HP Touchpad. I'mma look into it a little more though before signing my name on the bottom line. wink

The computers are fine. Obviously, if you want a top of the line system then you should build the system yourself and you can use high end components.

However, if your computer use is minimal or low-impact, then HP and Dell do systems perfectly fine. Hardware-wise anyway.

Prefab computers always tend to have an intricate web of bullshit preinstalled onto them and sometimes it can be ridiculously difficult to untangle it.

For instance, any virus software that comes preinstalled is fucking bullshit.

Oh, yeah it doesn't work that way at Pantip Plaza. lol You choose your OS and whatever copies of software they have that you might want, like photoshop or whatever, and they just put it on there for you for free.

Okay, has anyone had any problems with their order from this weekend?? Apparently, Barnes & Noble was so inundated with orders, they can't even process the cards fast enough to keep up, causing order statuses to say the order was unable to be processed and to call their customer service line (which actually tells you to call back and hangs up on you because the call volume is so freakin' high).

Based on the customer reviews on that site, a couple of people were able to call in and that's how they found out about the CC processing deal and was told the item(s) would still ship. Hmmm. Not too optimistic about this one, but we'll see.

So, for anyone would ordered this from a different site, is your order still kosher?

Lucky you. I was looking on Slickdeals, and every single one of the links (and there were MANY) they listed were all sold out or unavailable! Of course, you had some muthafuckas who got greedy and was ordering 2-5 of 'em and shit, leaving those who just want one possibly out in the cold. Suckas. razz

Man, I saw the comments on... I think Engadget and people were talking about buying 3-5 of them and reselling on ebay right there, just to be asses! Rude as shit. I woulda picked up more to help people out but I was SO damn excited to find one myself. It's a gift, actually, (for someone who legitimately wanted it) so I was relieved to snap one up.

I am sure this is not over and there is stock out there. When the dust settles, it will all come clear.

Now see, in your case, buying two is understandable!! But for those fuckers talking about buying a few of them just so they can sell them for a profit can eat a bag of baby dicks!

And I'm pretty sure this discount thing will continue too, but it'll be a matter of finding out as soon as they're in stock, where that is, and racing to it before it's too late. A lot of work for something I wasn't even in the market for prior to this firesale. Lol!

Okay, this sucks.

So, I finally get my Touchpad today, and I'm checking things out on it, and I see there's no way to access files on a NAS server (at least without doing some real "hacking", and though I am an IT nerd, hacking isn't one of my strong suits). WTF?? I was looking forward to accessing all of my comics, music, and movies I have stored on my NAS, and after doing some preliminary research, it seems the ONLY way I can do this right now would be to transfer the files I want to it by hooking it up to my laptop and copying shit over. Um, that's why I opted for the 16GB instead of the 32GB; because I wasn't planning on having too many physical files on it. That's why I paid goo-gobs for the server. That sucks!!

As it looks now, I'm only going to be able to use this thing for reading a couple of books via the Kindle app and simple web browsing. And that's okaaaay, but I was envisioning it being an important piece of my media network. I'm going to be paying close attention to the webOS community from here on out in case someone develops some sort of file managing app that allows for what I want this puppy to do. But, I'm really not expecting much since not the development of shit for this has been cut short due to HP killing this thing less than TWO months after launching it.

Ah well. Ya win some, ya lose some. confused

I just my 16 GB version delivered today from Amazon. woot! But I may not open it just yet; I just got a confirmation that the 32GB touchpad I ordered from another website is shipping out next week. I may just hold a raffle at work for the 16 GB touchpad for one of my co-workers who just had a stroke and is facing months of rehab. sad I wanted the 32GB version anyway, so I will most likely keep that.

Cool beans! If you're pretty sure this other website will indeed ship it to you next week and not cancel your order like a lot of sites have been doing over the past few days, then by all means go right on ahead!

Either way, lemme know what you think of it when you start to use whichever one.

What????!!! eek You don't have a network goin' yet?? Yes, we must get you up and running. You might as well go get that set up while you're waiting on word if your 32GB one will ship or not. Wireless routers are pretty cheap these days, and easy as pie to set up!

I haven't needed one till now. I have a desktop at home, and when I'm out and about I can usually find a free wifi hotspot. Plus I live by myself. But since I got a Kindle and am looking for a good smartphone in the future, I would like to have a wifi network set up in my apartment.

Gotcha!! Myself, I only had this laptop up until I bought a wireless printer a couple of months ago and now this Touchpad, but I also had a couple of NAS servers too, so getting WiFi set up here was an absolute must.
