I don't think I will go back to Thailand unless I can think of a good reason to go back. The last time I was there was for 5 weeks and I got bored very quickly. I found the beer just ok and the behavior of some tourists deplorable. Even the quiet, tranquille spots I loved first time around are becoming more touristy.

Have you got your arse over to Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia or Viet Nam yet by the way?

Really? I just can't see how that's possible. I can see how tourists' behaviour could bug you. As with the development of the quiet spots I don't let it bother me anymore.

I've never been to Cambodia (across the border and back doesn't count), or Vietnam. I love Laos! What I've seen of Malaysia bores me and makes me miss Thailand.

I've been in Thailand for a total of about three months. I'm hard pressed to find something to coax me back.

Oh, more than long enough to get a decent feel for the place and see lots of different places (I've not been to Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai though boxed ). Interesting that you're done with it already, but there are lots of places to see in the world and 3 months here is a fair bit.

Would love to visit. The food especially looks totally nom nom nom nom...

But I've got a whole bunch of places I NEED to go first. Places that are calling to me wee aardvark souls. I'll get there eventually, though.

Can you curse in Thailand? Maybe I'm thinking of Malaysia. I don't remember. I know you can get in trouble for cursing in one of those place. I fucking curse a fucking lot. I'm totally cool with being polite and respecting local customs. But I would hate to slip and end up in a Thai prison. lol

Another thing I love is that it's a country steeped in tradition, especially Isarn. If there is any place on earth that will resist westernization, it will be Isarn, Thailand.

But, it's no longer 3rd world. It's a developing country so the infrastructure here is decent.

You can get cellphone reception almost anywhere here.

Take for example, the person in this picture.

She is able to use her cellphone in just about any place in Thailand near a town.

Man, it costs like a million dollars to fly over there.

Not really, it's only like $1400, but still...I've never paid that much for airfare. The one time I flew overseas it was a military flight. Cost me like $70. For three people. Total.

Guess I've got some adapting to do.

That is the expensive part, yep. Back in the day I got a return from the UK for the equivalent of around $550 though. Now it's more like $1200 at the absolute cheapest with Qatar or Etihad. It can be very cheap once you get here though. You can get beautiful rooms for $50-$100 a night, and decent enough, clean, simple ones for $15 to $30.

I remember on Mon's birthday about 7 or 8 years ago we got a place on 2 floors near the beach on Koh Samui and that was only about $50 a night. I'd imagine it's a bit more now though. lol
