Is Being Called A Hipster Insulting?

So ummmm, for like the last 3 days people have been calling me a "hipster". I have no problem with it at all, I just don't see how "hipster" is a bad thing.

From what my old man has told me, the majority of the world are "hipsters". They say "hipsters" dress in Aeropostale, colorful clothes, have pretty hair, big fram glasses and skinny jeans. I wear skinny jeans, sorta colorful clothes and my hair is kinda pretty actually. But I'm not a "hipster".

They also say "hipsters" are always saying their not "hipsters".

How come people can't like mainstream things without being called "hipsters"? The only mainstream things I hate are music and search engines aha. Other than that, I like everything...well I hate mainstream resturants.

So does that make me a classified "hipster"?

-It is not something I would want to call myself.

-If some one called me that, I would say something like, "Get out of my face!" lol

And so called hipsters have NOTHING to do with anything "mainstream"...it's just that the masses eventually catch up and it becomes a huge trend...but then they are too cool for that and they are on to the next thing.

if people are labeling you as that, and I totally mean this, it means you need a new look.

by the time a term is common amongst groups, it means it's yesterday's news. and let's face it, who wants to be that? rolleyes

I'm more of a "ripster" I rip all my pockets off my clothes. It's totally going to be the next look.

Do you shop at American Apparel and does your life-style reflect responsible choisec for environment/animals/humanrights? Then you probably are a curren 'hipster' (hipsters also were youngsters adopting jazz and having liberal ideas, every decade has their own hipsters)

Or are you more of a don't make life hard, just enjoy all the pleasures and wear colorfull clothes, eat at McDonalds etc? You might be a scene kid.

However, you als maybe want to be yourself and making decisions by your own values in stead of wanting to belong to a certain group.

You'r okay. Don't worry. Just rely on your self and your own judgement, not on anybody elses.

Especially not from orgers.

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

I hate American Appeal, American Eagle etc...I wear v-neck white t's and surf tank-tops.I wear Vans, Converse and Toms shoes. I wear skinny jeans and Dockers. I like colorful socks. I hate rules, it's all about self peace with me. I do what makes me happy. I hate blending in. When me and friends go places and fuck shit up. But do it in a peaceful way aha. I hate mainstream resturants. Burger King, McDonalds, Wendys etc...

I like little cafe spots.

Does that makes me a hipster or scene kid?

will a label make it better or worse? Just be you, without trying.

it once meant a very specific thing, but like all youth sub-genres it has been co-opted by corporate America and diluted until it can be sold at shopping malls.

Hipsters are people that like to blend styles and act like they created something fresh new and hip.

They usually carry a "cooler than thou" attitude.

That said many people try to "take it back" and call each other this phrase in a "cool" way. As if self-depreciation is so cool and better.

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another
