If you could only keep one cookbook...

wich one would that be?

I love my cookbooks, and went through a few again today. I think that I have one favorite,

"Off the shelf" by Donna Hay.

What's your all time favorite cookbook?

I love the cooks illistratued ones. They test out every possible way to make the recipe including what cuts of meats are the best, what temp to cook at...etc. and come up with the best possible recipe! love it!

but I also love my old stand by fannie farmer cook book.

"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok

Either this...

[img:$uid]http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51nPYLpYBlL._SL500_AA300_.jpg[/img:$uid]

or this...

Why? Because cooking without a cookbook is easy. Baking and making ice cream, on the other hand, are nearly impossible because so much of it is chemistry. You need cookbooks for those.

I actually prefer the church or small town cookbooks that the community puts together. And I also like magazines like Taste of Home's Simple and Delicious. I have so many issues that I have to literally tell myself "no" whenever I pass the latest issue. The check out people probably think I'm nuts.

You'r right. However, I still love inspiration for recipes.

I bought an icecream machine, however, haven't used it yet. I'll check out your cookbook for recipes to start with.

pout

I'll never read those. Very limited edition isn't it?

There are sites to assemble your own cookbook and print it. Maybe an idea for enlarging the salesnumbers?

It's out of print (which is another reason I would keep it, no matter what).

And frankly, most of the recipes are not "starter" recipes. They're absolutely superb, but since most are custards (ie, they contain eggs), they take the better part of two days to make.

In other words, it isn't a, "Gee, I have a craving for ice cream - think I'll whip some up real quick" kind of book. lol

these are not my favorite recipes, but it is the most complete book that I have. It's the one I go back to over and over again. Often I alter the recipes, but it is a good jumping off point.

Along with cooking shows, this book is how I learned to cook.

my favorite cookbook is my wife.

really though, if her laptop was workng, she would say "THE FLAVOR BIBLE" by Karen Page and Andrew Dornenburg.

its not much of a cookbook, but it shows you how use complimentary flavors. She says its one of the best gifts I ever gave her.

and I benefit tremendously from that!!!!!

she also cooks me lots of tasty food because of it, also.

lol lol

I never knew it existed.....would you share an important life lesson and recipe with us???

smetimes a simple gift...

..is just that..a simpe gift u never use.

except for!!!!! :

Spicy Shrimp Dip

1/2 pound of shrimp

3 oz's of cream cheese

8 oz's sour crream

1 envelope of italian dressig mix

2 tbs finely chopped green pepper(Jalapeno)

2 tsp lemon juice

boil some water. Add shrimp. Cook 3-5 mins or untill pink. Dran, rinse w/ cold water, chill, peel and devein. Chop shrimp.

Beat cream cheese at med. speed untill creamy. Stir in sour cream, shrimp, dressing mix, green peppers(jalapenos) and lemon juice. I usually thro in some Tobaso and Tony Chacheries(sp?). Chill at least an hour. Over night is better...MUCH better. Serve w/ crackers(NO not those kind of crackers...the kind u eat silly!) and cheese and/or dipping veggies(cellery carrots radishes...pickled variety workes as well.)

as well as several other recipies

so I lied when I said I never use it.

there's another one for a nut coated creamcheese ball that i like!!!!

also has the typical bbq shrimp(which ISN'T what U might be thinking) and bbq/grill shrimp, frid shrimp, cocktail sauce, shrimp creole, shrimp & Chicken gumbo...wait...my bottom lip is getting bigger...lemme shut up.

Noted.

I don't have that many cookbooks, and indeed, there is no such thing as enough cookbooks, kitchentools, utilities or a kitchen that is big enough. Just doesn't exist in my book.

There are a lot of 'old style' cookbooks that are favorites here.

I'll check that one out too. Lord knows I do want to be good at housekeeping. However, besides the cooking part, it's not my natural talent.
