FauxReal

For some reason, the first decade is a bit of a blur almost. It's like the 10 years went faster than any 5 years during the 90s for me.

To me it seems there was also more change culturally from 1990 to 1995 even (don't have to go the full decade) than there was from 2000-2010. The music hasn't changed as much as it did back then, same with clothes, everything. Just seems like there was so little change apart from politics and whatnot.

I wouldn't consider GWB a sociopath (the average sociopath is usually much smarter), but I've always considered him very handsome. Dumb as a box of rocks, but a good-looking man, in my opinion. I think John Boehner is handsome also. Nevertheless, I find the politics of both these guys very disturbing. Although I try to give whatever credit where it's due.

The first have of the decade (2000-2005ish) were pretty decent. It was a time when a lot of people still had houses and fat 401Ks. It was a time when CBreezy and Rihanna were almost on their way to being a power couple. It was a great time for Hollywood with sequels to the Lord of the Rings , X-Men and Matrix movies. U2s tribute to 9/11 victims at the 2003 Superbowl, and then of course there was that whole Y2K thing in 2000. Seemed like heavy makeup took a backseat to a more natural look around say 2006 through 2008. Green tea got real big during the beginning of the decade and now green tea is in every damn thing from soda to ice cream to facial moisturizers. wacky Lots of talk about climate change during this first decade and technological gadgets improved faster than they could be created.

neutral

Actually I don't care much about decades threads but I just needed an excuse to talk about green tea.

I forgot how good that ish(shit) was.

...Seriously?

It looks like piss. I suspected it tastes like it too (or at least what I imagine piss tastes like), so I avoid it like the plague.

Oscar winners 2000's:

Gladiator (2000)

A Beautiful Mind (2001)

Chicago (2002)

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)

Million Dollar Baby (2004)

Crash (2005)

The Departed (2006)

No Country for Old Men (2007)

Slumdog Millionaire (2008)

The Hurt Locker (2009)

my personal life issues along with 9/11/2001 turned me into a bit of a recluse (save for close friends). i kinda tuned out and movies became a catalyst to conversation and means of escape.

That was basically my childhood.. 2000 I started elementary school. It's funny, the last 1-2 digits in the year is also always the grade I am in smile So yeah...

For me it was

Britney Spears <3

9/11

Being blamed for 9/11

Spongebob Squarepants

Bad music

Miniskirts

Superficiality

Autotune

I don't even know, because I'm so young. But I'm just glad it's over.

But maybe it will get better? I mean, if you look at the 1900s, who remembers the 00s-10s of the 1900s anyway? Maybe we have great things to come but it's just starting shitty? Who knows..

It was the decade that I was at my thinnest weight for the majority of the decade and I definitely took advantage of it by being the biggest whore I've ever been in my entire life. It was also the decade that I lost my mother and several good friends. It was the decade that will always be remembered for 9/11. It was also the decade with the worst music in the history of music.

I was the best of times and also the worst of times.

If he would just let me go to his place. But since he's a Republican, he just keeps insisting on doing it in an airport men's room. And I don't even want to think about where he does it with Condaleeza Rice. lol

No particular order

World & Arts

Stupidest people since the 1920s (overall). Lack of common sense.

Greed is Good, Pt.2

9/11

Afghanistan invasion

No real interest in culture, art or history, some Hollywood "sword & sandal" films are not enough

Dumb young people

Incompetent old people

Worst US (and world's) elected president since...well, perhaps of all time...

Talibans and terrorists

Iran being a dark and crappy place to live...

The rape of Irak...

Out of control globalization

Neocons blowing it...

Awesomely bad and/or insanely overrated new music, competent music by old (or 90s) artists...

Kylie Minogue, Coldplay, White Stripes (2000-2003)

Return of PRINCE

Death of MJ. The 20Th Century truly ended.

Windows XP and Vista/7 and the Rise of Apple/Mac

Madonna being the biggest live star of the decade. Kneel before the Queen.

The Rolling Stones are still alive and well

Too much electronic/dance-pop everywhere

Beyoncé/Rihanna

Crappy Reality TV

Bad TV overall

Death of hip-hop as a cutting edge/ relevant genre

Internet being so important that the world will never be the same

Lord of the Rings Trilogy

Daniel Craig as Bond

Harry Potter

Batman Begins/The Dark Knight

Wolverine

Superhero movies, some great ones, some afwul ones

Rise of neoracism

Rise of mainstream homophobia

"The System Has Failed" (2008-????)

Rise of Obama and Clinton

Worthy young people being left behing

Families being left behind

Unemployment

Personal stuff

Losing my grandpa and my dad

Having a good time in high-school

Having a boring time in college

Having great sex with some amazing & interesting girls/women

Enough $, but not enough to make it to the "adult life", I'm still a 20 years old I guess...

The last 10 years have been thrilling for me on a personal level. Thrilling isn't always great. But it's still a thrill.

Pop culture-wise? 9/11. The Decade of Terrorism.

nod

Same with me...it will always about 9/11...I still think about that day a lot 10 years later, and when I go to NY (which is a lot for work) I think about it constantly and STILL can't believe the twin towers are no longer there.

But personally? It was a thrilling rollercoaster ride, beginning with a lot of confusion, then learning a lot about myself, and thus changing a lot of my destructive behaviour, and finally, ended with meeting the love of my life and coming out. biggrin
