Have you had chicken pox?

How old were you and who did you catch it from if anyone? What was your experience like?

I had chicken paux one time in France it is delicious. Although the last time i had it they put lashings of garlic infused olive oil which was slightly overkill, but i highly recommend.

Yes when I was about 4 or 5, i remember it being really, really itchy and having red spots. The only thing that really helped was the pink calamine lotion that soothes the itching.

It's probably best to get it out of the way as a child as it it much more dangerous as an adult.

Yes I was about 3/4. I don't know who I caught it from. I went to 'play school' one day and they sent me home. I remember crying because I didn't want to leave haha, then I went to the park the same day and after that I just stayed at home until they went away. I don't remember having any issues with them, it was quite mild.

I've had the chicken pox and it's older cousin, the shingles, also.

I don't remember the pox too well, but the shingles was painful.

Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

yes, when i was living in brazil i caught it from my roomates boyfriend. he was infected with it at the time and wouldn't stop coming over to our house. so i ended up catching it, i was 24 years old at the time. i still have some scars from it. i was very sick, and almost had to be put in the hospital. worst thing is to be that sick, that far from home.

My mom had four cases at the same time. Fortunately, none of us were horribly sick. My case was so mild that her biggest problem was keeping me quarantined for a week.

I caught chicken pox from my older brothers when I was 6 or 7 months old. The doctor told my mom that it was possible that I could get them again but I never have. I've been around tons of people that have had them since so I think I'm immune at this point.

I never had them...

My sister got them twice, and just about every year since I've been teaching, I've been exposed during the school year. One year, just about every kid in the class got them.

My doctor said it is possible that I had such a mild case that it went undetected.

I got it just a couple of weeks before my 13th birthday. I remember being really sick and feverish for one day at school and then breaking out in red spots and itching like crazy. I missed a whole week of school because of the rash. I wasn't actually feeling that bad except for the itchy rash and wanting to scratch myself all over. But I ended up giving all but one of my brother and sisters chicken pox.

Had it once at 20. It was horrible. Super itchy, bumps all over. Feverish. It was hell actually. Thankfully it left no scars after it cleared.

I got the pox when i was 5 or 6.

remember once you get it you always have it. it may be dormant, but is it there. IIRC it is one of the herpes viruses.

it can come back active under some circumstances. thus the idea that you can get it twice. you can break out more than once but it is in all likely-hood the same one you had before.

it is like when someone has their tonsils removed but then they have to have them removed again. well that is not true. what happened is the doctor that took them out misses some of the them and they got infected. but once removed they do not grow back.

Sounds like you went through hell. I've never had it though one time when someone at home caught it, I got vaccinated so I don't get it.

I always thought people over a certain age would get shingles instead of chicken pox and it would be worse. I guess you had to have had chicken pox first.

If you've never had them you can catch them at any age. From what I understand shinges can happen after you've already had chicken pox

Oh ok, and you can catch that from someone with shingles, not chicken pox right? I'm counting myself as having chicken pox since after the vaccine you get a "mild form" though I didn't have any symptoms after it.

I understand shingles and cp are either the same virus or very similar. I've always wondered if the reason I only got the mild case is because I was exposed to it as a child even though I never got them myself. Oatmeal baths are suppose to help though I sure there are better remedies on the market
