BEAUTIFUL MESH SCULPTURES. ... Ohhhh emmm gee, purtay!

Janet Echelman was rejected from 7 art schools after college the same way I was rejected by Jerseykrs for Punkmistress. But, she didn't give up. Instead, she went off to build these incredibly beautiful sculptures. I'm just blown away by them.

They're shamelessly gorgeous and modern, but not pretentious.

Great find. I like the third one, but not the other's as much, but I'm biased against this sort of public art. Poetic shapes though.

I love the concept of adding softness to urban landscapes. I'm not a big fan of harsh edges, etc. They're aesthetically pleasing, but make me uneazy. I think it's my Feng Shui sense that does this to me, lol

They're like giant "Invaders of the Jellyfish", very organica looking. But for my tastes also a bit too Vegas-y.

The art school she didn't get into might have asked her about methodology and ecological impact of lighting up such a structure, and how that might relate to the intellectual aspects of the work.. And that is generally where I see this work lacking.

I'm messmerized by them, and I agree with the artist that in modern landscapes there's too much harshness and not enough softness.

It's a brilliant concept.

It's perfect. Modern, fitting with this age of technology, but soft and somewhat organic-looking.

I would love to see these things soften up some of the dreadful city skylines around the world.

This whole thread was borne out of your resentment for Chris choosing Erin over you though, wasn't it. I always assume all of your threads come from that same place, to be honest.

Pic #1 is from our new ASU campus in downtown Phoenix. As beautiful as it is, everyone I've talked to here absolutely hates it. They all say it looks like a giant floating used condom. That's AZ for you... they don't like anything different here.

I can understand the liabilities of lighting the work, but talk about the methodological shortcomings a bit. I'm interested in reading your critique.
