Mis-Adventures of an Awkward Black Girl

Has anyone ever seen/heard of this video, the series? It's pretty funny so far, and pretty damn true.

A real awkward persons life is tragic.

I think the title of the show is misleading. Shes more quirky than awkward.

Well that's if the person is morbidly awkward, but she's awkward because she does not always feel comfortable in the places where most people fit in. I can relate, and I think other people can, especially black people who are often expected to act differently.

I've been the odd kid since I was 8. Nothing had to "happen to me", but that's when I just felt different from people in my age range. shrug I guess that would be my "awareness" period?

After I typed it, I considered the fact girls mature faster than boys. I, myself, don't terribly feel awkward but that's mostly because I don't really give a rat's ass what anyone thinks, does, or says. Call it a lack of respect for authority trickle down. smile

But I get what you mean. I had the same thing, but with being gay. Finding out that you are very, very different from everyone around you (ostensibly) is... I don't want to say scary, but for me it was pretty alarming.

You know the part where the other girl turns and suddenly starts studying the eye chart on the wall like it's the most riveting thing ever? I've actually done that before, more than once lol .

I read about this series this past Saturday and now with your thread I'm able to watch it. I like it , its amusing without resorting to cheap offensive humor, I'll be watching this from now on. Quite cool.

I worried way too much, and sometimes still do. At that time, I had a lot of thoughts in my head and wasn't sure if I could tell people or keep them to myself. And like automatically, the kids in my school sort of all decided I was "weird" from 2nd grade on up. Without their label, I would have been strange and awkward because I did strange things at home all the time. Around this age, I also had a dream on a car trip (about a beautiful blond lady, and I didn't understand the "strange feelings" I was having for her...)that I just did not understand. A lot of internal stuff was happening to me, and I thought my family would be angry because I wasn't a "normal" child.

I 'spose you could say I was so worried about how my internal workings were making me look on the outside. That upped the awkward factor qute a bit. lol

Me, too! I always avoid eye contact with people because I am afraid they will talk to me and I won't know what to say. Plus I don't know if they are worth the time. I don't like wasting time with frivilous friendships with people who I am not compatible with.

Glad to have helped you find something worth watching. With all the awkward shows starring white people (The Office, Parks and Recreation) I think its time that people realize that black people exist and we can be awkward. Can't be "supafly" all of the time.
