classicshaving is a great site. nod

this link has a ton of information in it. Give it a read.

I used to dread shaving, like you said, my beard is coarse and heavy. Now I enjoy it, really! I spend 10-15 minutes paying attention, feeling my beard after each pass and relathering....kind of hard to explain, but it's enjoyable.

I used a Mach 3 for years, often getting crap shaves and irritated, red skin. I switched to some Tesco's cheap plastic disposable razors and actually got a slightly better shave and saved a stack of money. They're about 65 cents for 3 or 4. Never going back!

probably the best thing about my beard... biggrin

I'll trim it back with clippers when needed but those cost me $15 like 10 years ago...

I wasn't excluding women from the shaving conversation. It's expensive for you too

My point is that a razor (or blades) is a drop in the bucket for women.

I just saw a 12-pack of disposable razors for $18 bucks on Amazon. For me, that'd last more than a year. A year's supply of tampons costs three times that much (at least).

Lets not even get started with all the other shit and the price of bra's disbelief

I don't really have to shave on a daily bases anything else than my neck. lol

Now what's with the price of coffee these days? It's nearly doubled over here during the last 12 months. neutral

What in the name of Billy Gibbons is up with the price of razor blades?

I just paid $20 for some replacements for a Gillette Sensor (not one of the more expensive razors). It came with 10 blades.

Some of the others are twice as much!

pissed We don't even like to shave! This is an outrage!!!

I know exactly what you mean. I have the Gillette Mach 3 razor and those replacement blades are rediculously expensive. What pisses me off though, is I've seen generic brands of the Gillette Sensor blades that will fit the Sensor stembs in the stores that are like five for $5 but I can't find any of the Gillette Sensor stembs in any of the stores.

I bought some razors just last week. I bought some generic type stemb and blades and they've got my face broke out. Looks like I'm going to have to bite the bullet and go ahead and buy those high priced Mach 3 replacement blades.

No kidding! I'm thinking of going electric. The price of blades is ridiculous.

And you know what I found? The generic, or grocery store brands that are made to fit your razor are cheap but HORRIBLE. Don't try Kroger-brand razors unless you like to bleed.

I've had a few cheap electric razors in the past but my beard is so thick, that the razor will just stop right while I'm in the middle of shaving and they never seem to shave my face close enough. I'm a hairy man. lol

I've always wondered this. You're a black man and I've heard people talk about Magic Shave. They say it's a powder or something that you can just simply put on your face and it will take the hair off without shaving. Have you ever tried it and does it work? If it does, they need to come out with something like that for white men. lol

Yeah, the prices are going up. If I shaved the dome every day, I'd be in trouble.

To make matters worse, the lubrication strip on Mach 3 Turbo (my brand for the past few years) doesn't last nearly as long as it used to. So, they're ensuring we have to buy them more frequently.

mad

Hell, I shave for sometimes a week and a half or two weeks after the blue wears off on that strip and haven't any problem with it. I think they're just trying to make more money.

I'm the exact opposite. I used to use plastic disposable razors years ago and they would break my face out something horrible. Someone told me to use the razors with the cartridges such as the Mach 3 and don't have that problem anymore. However, a lot of times if I don't have to work on the weekend, I will go the entire weekend without shaving (I hate to shave). By Monday morning, I will damn near have an actual light "beard" and when I shave it off, my face will have red blemishes but by late Tuesday, they go away. I'm fine as long as I shave every day but when I skip days, it messes me up every time.

Disposable razors seem to not be as sharp. They grab at the hair and yank it out.

I sometimes break out with blades, too. I switched to an electric, but it has its own problems.
