Yeah, you're right. Weed and more weed. I think it's some kinda rule when you visit there. "Don't make me chase u, even doves have pride.."

When you go to Amsterdam:
Rule 1. Behave. With all due respect and I am defintly not saying you are like them, but don't be like some many other British who crash all over this place, drunk, high and bothering people. If you manage to do that, the people of Amsterdam will be friendly and open to you.
Rule 2. Go sightseeing by taking a tour on a canalboat. Don't get drunk on the boat, but really listen to the guide explaining the history of the city and its buildings and see how pretty Amsterdam really is, especially viewed from the water.
Rule 3. Go to the Rijksmuseum to see Rembrandt, Vermeer and other great masters and then to the Vincent Van Gogh museum. Both located on the Museum square. If you like classical music there is usually a performance of that in het Concertgebouw, also on the same square.
Rule 4. Go to see the red light district, but again behave, unless you prefer spending the night in jail or being beat up by some other punks.
Rule 5. To go out for drinks there is a lot to do in and around het Rembrandt plein (square) and Leidseplein.(lots of tourists there too always). But if you prefer something more quiet and traditional places, just go a little bit out of the center, stroll around town, towards the river Amstel and you will pass lots and lots of little, authentic bars where you can often drink untill the early hours.
I see also that you will be staying for two weeks. That could give you the opportunity to see more of the Netherlands if you like. If you would, I would recommend you to go and see the Delta works in Zeeland. Also the windmills and how they make dutch cheese in the 'Zaanstreek' and how they catch fish in Volendam and Monnickendam. If the weather is good, go to the beach at Scheveningen in the morning and spend the afternoon and evening in The Hague. There is a lot more tho', but that would get you somewhere I guess.
oops sorry, just misread your post, its only a weekend that you are going, plus you are getting drunk AND high!

Yes its fun....I went there with a Dutch friend of mine a few years back - but i hear its become much less liberal than it used to be! In the red light district you see prossies dancing in the shop windows! Also the sex shops have some really hardcore stuff in there, I was a little shocked at first! You can buy weed in the coffee shops but they are cracking down on drug tourism now so be aware!
When I last went there when they had the Queen's day celebration (end of April/early May) its like one big festival/party!!
I agree with Trem, the boat trip is worth it. Also try to see Anne Franks' house...its pretty moving though.

No, I can't tell you are drunk, you'r typing very clearly, so I don't believe you are drunk at all.
So, I'll respond, because this tread is going astray!
What do you want to do with your friends? Go clubbing? Visit bars?
Or are you the cultural types and interested in art? If so, what kind of art?
Where are you staying? In what part of Amsterdam?

Actually, there are tourists that visit because they apreciate the sheer beauty of the city, the architecture, the museums, the atmosphere in the non-tourist cafes and terraces, strolling along the Amstel towards nearby villages. They aren't drunk and stoned.
True story. I've seen them with my own eyes. 99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.
