What would you do? My son got his bike stolen almost two months ago.
Since that time we saw a kid in the neighborhood riding a bike that was painted with the exact same frame.
My son being 20, this kid is a VERY short 16 yr. old that looks 13.... I didn't want my son going to jail for beating him up.
So today I catch this kid trying to flirt with my 9 year old daughter in front of my apartment. I open my front door and ask my daughter if she is hungry...
She says yes and walks in the apartment... I turn to the boy and say,
"You know yopu stole my son's bike, he's 20... he wanted to beat your ass, but I don't want him going to jail, so instead we reported it to the police... does your family know you are keeping stolen goods? Do they have all their papers in order? I may need to report this to the management since you are stealing bikes... you're lucky we aren't thuggish people, we have been seeing you ride this bike for 5 weeks now. You do realize people get shot or stabbed in the hood for this sort f stuff right?"
In 5 minutes I had my son's bike back. He was scared.
Upon futher inspection... my son says... "Mom, that's not my bike"
OOPS!
What should I do?

No... the bike was stolen... its someone else's bike that was stolen. Not my son's bike that was stolen.
Its the same make .... but the signature gears are a bit different. The bike is a different bike.
The bike was spray painted and the decals were removed... so we thought it was ours... when I scraped the spray paint, the paint underneath was red.
The original color of my son's bike was blue and yellow.
The bike was painted silver and yellow... its a red bike under the paint.
So I scared the shit outta this kid. He admitted to stealing that bike, he claimed to steal it from a different area. So when I asked if his parents paperwork was in order is because I know his father is an illegal immigrant. So its a nasty threat.... he didn't want problems with his dad so he gave me the bike.
Its not my son's bike though... I don't know what to do now. It doesn't belong to us.

I know where the kid lives... finding him is no problem.
I don't want this little thief to get this bike... I don't think I'll find the actual owner of this bike, my son bought a new one... so he won't ride it. The bike is jacked up... awful cheap seat on it and it needs repairs on the brakes.
I just don't want a thief to enjoy a bike he stole. But its not our bike. I don't want it.
It was funny though, he was REALLY scared.
I feel conflicted.

I say keep it, use it as a spare or give it away free yeah! Its a moral victory Painted, dont undermine that!! . In fact I think you should make a spandex suit like Tour De France athletes wear and be a stolen bike vigilante!!! 12 yr old theives!! And then Triple P Girl goes from simple bike-by assault into more of a bare-handed, live autopsy... "...because no-one gets there alone." - "...I like the floor. It's the only thing that seems real."

As I was reading that, I was thinking the whole time, "How do you even know that's your kid's bike".
Give it back, apologize profusely, and hope no one shows up trying to beat you down. "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

first i'd have a good long

If you knew me... you wouldn't worry about that at all.
I told the kid he was lucky he didn't get hurt... he saw me today, still scared.... poor thing. I told the police he is stealing bikes, gave them the adresses of his buddy Habib and his home. The two who steal bikes in our area.
My son's new bike he purchased arrived via fedex today.... so we will be donating the other bike that was stolen to the bike shop folks up the street. He'll refurbish it and give it to a kid you deserves it more.
Fuck that little thief. I still wanna beat his ass for trying to get my 9 year old daughter in a hallway. Creep. Still might pay a few kids to whoop his ass.

I am still angry he tried to get fresh with my baby.... she's like 9 and innocent. She won't go outside today, she's scared I think.

There's a saying... "You gotta laugh to keep from crying because life is funny like that."
I think in this case, its a perfect saying. Kid did no good riding around in a stolen bike.
What shocks me is that if I ever brought a stolen anything in my house, my mom would beat my butt and make me return it... I just don't understand the parents of these two boys.
These boys will go south soon enough and end up in jail if there is no intervention. I wish Unis's parents spoke English.

When it's your kids...you do/say some mean shit sometimes. "Aren't you even curious? Don't you want to see the dragon behind the door?"
