How Does a Four-Year-Old Spend $46,000 a Month? Supermodel Linda Evangelista is asking French billionaire Francois Henri-Pinault for $46,000 a month in child support. He's the father of Ms. Evangelista's four-year-old son, Augustin James. And Ms. Evangelista argues that $46,000 is the minimum required to provide for young Augustin in the manner to which he has grown accustomed. Readers outside New York are probably thinking: "What's this kid eating ?!" Readers in New York are thinking: "She should ask for more." To find out how a four-year-old could possibly burn through $46,000 a month in Manhattan, I called Natasha Pearl, president of Aston-Pearl, the New York-based lifestyle-management firm for wealthy families.
Here's the breakdown: Childcare Forget the nanny. Kids like Augustin need a round-the-clock child-care team, what the wealthy call "full, 24/7 coverage." Ms. Pearl says that requires three nannies, with two rotating on full schedule and another as a backup. "And that third nanny preferably has some specialty skill, like teaching the kid Mandarin," Ms. Pearl said. "And if he's a boy, the third staffer might be a manny to run him around the park and throw him baseballs." Total cost: About $23,000 a month or more — half the total. School Augustin is still in preschool, which means that rather than paying the $36,000 to $40,000 a year for private school, Ms. Evangelista only has to pay about $20,000 to $30,000 for a top preschool. That means his school bill — at least for now — is a mere $2,500 a month. Clothing You can't be the son of Linda Evangelista and the world's luxury king and wear Osh-Kosh. To sheath Augustin in Chloe, Berlingot and Jacadi (does Gucci have a kids' line?) you're looking at $3,000 a month minimum. Extracurriculars Fencing, chess, French lessons, soccer and all the other add-ons that are required for any successful Manhattan four-year-old will easily run another $2,000 to $5,000 a month. Drivers "He probably needs his own driver since they can't split one," Ms. Pearl said. "If he needs to be at school at 8 a.m. and she needs to be out 'til 2 a.m., they have to have two." So add another another $6,000 to $8,000 a month. So we're already at more than $41,000 and we haven't even gotten to his daily sushi intake, the expense account at F.A.O. Schwartz and the kiddie birthday parties at Top of the Rock.
"At first glance, $46,000 seems like an extraordinary amount and it is," Ms. Pearl said. "But for a fortunate child in New York, it is actually absolutely conceivable that his expenses could approach $50,000 a month." Message to Mr. Pinault: you're getting a bargain.

Linda Evangelista reportedly shocked Manhattan Family Court on Monday, asking baby daddy Francois-Henri Pinault to pay $46,000 in child support per month, according to the New York Post. Evangelista claims she needs the hefty sum to pay for nannies and armed chauffeurs to take care of her son, four-year-old Augustin. However, Support Magistrate Matthew Troy told the supermodel, "That would probably be the largest support order in the history of the Family Court." Doesn't he know that he's talking to the woman who doesn't wake up for less than $10,000 a day? Speaking of, the Post adds, the judge inquired about Evangelista's current employment, to which she responded that she sometimes puts in 16-hour shifts and, "On days when I do not work, I am working on my image." Just last month, the New York Post confirmed that French businessman and CEO of PPR Pinault was indeed the father of Evangelista's baby. She repeatedly refused to reveal who it was, initially saying it was "a New York architect," but Pinault's name started circulating in 2007, thanks to Page Six. At the time, Didier Fernandez of DNA Model Management, told People.com, "Not true. [Evangelista] has never said who the father is." But Page Six was still hot on the trail of Evangelista's personal life and spotted Evangelista headi...early July to set up a support agreement with Augustin's dad: The Manhattan magistrate's court action confirms that the two-timing Pinault -- CEO of the $28 billion conglomerate that owns Gucci, Bottega Veneta and Yves St. Laurent -- is the daddy to two 4-year-olds by different world-famous beauties. One -- Augustin, and the other -- Valentina, Pinault's daughter with wife Salma Hayek. No agreement was reached then and given Evangelista's latest request, it seems unlikely that there will be an arrangement now. So look out for a trial come fall.
Thank God the kid looks like his mama cuz his daddy . . .

It's not cheap being a supermodel mommy! Glamorous cover girl Linda Evangelista came to Manhattan Family Court yesterday -- and slapped her deadbeat billionaire French baby-daddy with a $46,000-a-month support request. "That would probably be the largest support order in the history of the Family Court," noted Support Magistrate Matthew Troy, who is expected to decide on an amount when the parties return to Family Court next month. The demure but towering Evangelista, still stunning at 46, is demanding the cash from Francois-Henri Pinault -- CEO of the Paris-based luxury conglomerate that owns Gucci, Yves St. Laurent and Bottega Veneta -- who is the father of her 4 year old, Augustin James, to whom he has not paid a penny since the boy's birth. Pinault is married to Salma Hayek, with whom he has another child of nearly identical age -- 3-year-old Valentina. While Pinault lavishes Valentina with luxuries -- he even spends $50,000 a month for a $12 million Los Angeles estate held in trust in the girl's name -- Evangelista has been saddled with the entire cost of caring for and protecting little Augie, complained the model's lawyer, William Beslow. "He's just been sitting back, paying zero," Beslow told the magistrate yesterday. The majority of the monthly sum Evangelista is requesting would cover the round-the-clock nannies and gun-toting drivers that are simply the due of any son of a single mom and an overseas billionaire, her lawyer argued yesterday. But Pinault, whose family is worth an estimated $11.5 billion, is fighting the expenditures tooth and nail. During a lengthy deposition last Tuesday, Pinault's lawyer grilled her on just why she needs a team of heat-packing drivers who are former police detectives -- at a whopping cost of $175,000 a year. Evangelista also wants $80,000 a year for a nanny, Pinault lawyer David Aronson complained to the judge yesterday. "She testified that she wants to have a 24-hour nanny because she does not want to be alone with the child . . . Miss Evangelista, you should understand, has a worth of more than $8 million, and she earned, last year, $1.8 million." The judge immediately scratched out the $7,500 Evangelista was seeking for monthly "vacation" expenses, but ultimately seemed very sympathetic to the security and nanny costs, noting that these may simply be prudent expenditures for raising a high-profile, high-risk Manhattan scion. "These are the extraordinary expenses that may be a part of the child's life," the judge said. "And if there is a trial [in the support case] with a lot of publicity, there will probably be a need for two detectives to drive this kid around." It's understandable, too, for Evangelista to want another adult -- a nanny -- to be on hand given her security concerns and travel requirements of her job, the judge said. "How many hours a week do you work?" the judge asked the model at one point. "On days when I do not work, I am working on my image," Evangelista answered, her voice soft, and tinged with defensiveness. "I have to hit the gym. I have beauty appointments. I have to work toward my next job and maintaining my image," she said, "just like an athlete." "When I work, it can be a 16-hour day," she added. Both lawyers and Evangelista declined comment after the proceeding.

Looking at the breakdown though I think MOST of the money she's asking for is for security and the nanny. So the amount might actually make sense. Plus he ain't paid a dime since the kid's been born so I say trip on girl, trip the fuck ON!

The part that cracked me up was that the child and the mom need separate drivers because the mom might need to be out until 2:00 AM.

Uhhh, being out late and traveling all over the world is part of her job which means she needs around the clock childcare. She's a single parent and has not received any financial support from the father.

Exactly, but he's a fool too. These wealthy mfers NEVER learn. Apparently, money doesn't = brains. Hasn't he heard of a condom? He's as dumb as some of the pro athletes involved in shit like this.

I still think this is a revenge-type thing.

Given the lifestyle, it makes sense to me.
A shame knowing how some folks get to live as some of us feel guilty about splurging on movie night.

But I don't get why average people would judge the expenses of the rich tho. It's all relative. They probably spend less on childcare and living expenses based on a percentage of their income than regular folks. Besides, when you're rich and famous you need security and that's not cheap. Even the judge said that if this goes to trial the kids is going to need additional security.

Who'd want nothing but the best for their kid, especially one by a multi-billionare. The karate class at the local YMCA would NOT be an option. Ev.er.y.thing would have be exclusive, ain't no Payless, Shaq brand sneakers gonna cut it, JC Penney's neither, getting into the right school, having the right friends and associates, cost, then to add security far and beyond against the regular sickos us normal folks need to worry about. It isn't fair, but, yeah, I see it.
