That's not very ambitious. I turned 48 last month and between raising kids and starting a business, I had let myself get pretty out of shape over the years. I'm now working hard to turn that around. My goal is to be 30 at 50. i.e. to be as heathy as a healthy 30 year old. I'm doing it through a drastic change to my diet and through nutritional supplements.
I started about 18 weeks ago and have been refining things as I go. Thus far I've lost 26 lbs, improved my eyesight, improved my blood pressure, improved my blood sugar control, and partially reversed my grey hair.
The goal is for my grey hair to be completely gone by the time I turn 50, which is about how long I think it'll take to fully reverse, and for my lab work and body fat to all be in the ideal range, not for a 50 year old, but for a 30 year old.
My other goal is to run my first ever 5k race when I turn 50. [Edited 7/26/11 18:49pm]

a man on TV last night (one of the Australia's Got Talent judges) said "fat is the new black" and like HE hasn't got so many health issues he had to be beamed into the show live via satellite!

I turned 40 this year and am currently addressing a long list of long neglected health issues seeing specialist after specialist. I plan to feel GOOD again! The first thing to do to feel better is stop following the USDA diet guidelines. Watch the movie "Fat Head" which is free on Netflix streaming for a glimpse into why. I now follow a diet that is 30% carbs, 30% protien and 40% fat. Keep that ratio at each meal and stick to low glycemic index carbs. Fat has more calories per gram than fat or protien, which are the same. So for a meal take the total grams of carbs, subtract out the fiber and sugar alcohol, neither of which count, match the grams of protien to that total and then aim for half as many grams of fat. Do this constantly and you may reverse metabolic syndrom, which causes a host of health issues such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol and triglyceride issues, etc. Do this while eating about 400 less calories a day than you need and you will lose a pound to a pound and a half of excess fat a week without losing lean body mass. And you can do this all without being hungry.

I'm in Australia!!!! so I don't really know what the USDA recommends.
My sister in law and her husband are following the CSIRO diet - they are losing (and keeping off) weight and their cholesterol levels are improving! http://www.csiro.au/science/TWD.html
My bloodwork all show excellent levels of everything except iron and vitamin D. I'm eating as much (very lean) meat as I can. I actually eat very well. My low energy levels, depression and lethargy are directly attributed to my 2 deficiencies, which are being addressed
Once my energy levels are like that of a normal person I will start exercising again (I've been VERY unwell for a few weeks especially emotionally)

27 is the new 22.
No but seriously, I don't think 50 = AARP. But it's been a running joke. Remember that article about Michael, Madonna and Prince all hitting the age and saying "now they're required for AARP membership" or something like that...
