Way back in the PML or PPML days, there was a legendary flame war involving a reference to "Aretha Franklin with a pack o' Fritos" in the NPG song "Good Life" or something. Apparently, it was such a big event here (as absurd as it sounds) that former moderator Ian actually came up with his avatar as a lingering reference....

I wasn't around back then, but to this day I'm still not exactly sure what the whole episode was about. Could someone explain?

Fritos are an important part of a balanced diet.

I remember the PPML and the early days of the Org, but, funnily enough, I missed the whole Fritos debacle. I seem to recall reading that the gist of it was something to do with Fritos being classed as a characteristically/stereotypically 'Black' snack; referred to in the way someone might reference a bucket o' chicken wings or something. As I understand it, someone made a remark to this effect and it sparked this community's first race row; something which would become a tradition within Org circles, faithfully observed at least once a year.

(P.S. I could have gotten the wrong end of the stick. Hopefully, someone else will fill in the blanks!)

Wasn't there something a few years back about Prince's chef quitting cuz Prince wanted to eat mostly Fritos and twinkies? (or something like that???)

Fritos are to chips what wine-in-a-box is to liquor.

I used to eat them in grammar school on "hot dog day" along with a cream soda. Now I can't stand them.

When I buy the multi-packs of chips for the school lunches...my kids leave the Fritos bags uneaten.

What's really funny is that I was at 7-Eleven this morning and was looking at the rack of chips. Most of the bags cost 99cents now..the Fritos cost 50cents.

I could eat Fritos until I PUKE i love them so much! Plain and chili cheese

all i know is that if U do eat fritos....your mouth reeks of them 'till u get yo ass to the dentist...a regular cleaning don't help. chili cheese fritos require a tongue transplant. corn nuts too.. I know..... im exagerating.

One of the replies contained a comment that many readers considered racist, and a massive flame war erupted (PPML digest #564 reprints some choice excerpts). The last time I was over at a friend's house for cocktails, she bought a bag of Chili Cheese Fritos for us to eat "if we got drunk enough."

No...sometime in the 90's around the time that the comic book came out (I think)...maybe it's one of those Urban Legends and the menu changes from telling to telling.
