No but seriously, I don't think 50 = AARP. But it's been a running joke. Remember that article about Michael, Madonna and Prince all hitting the age and saying "now they're required for AARP membership" or something like that...

No, it's true. Once you turn 50, you can become a member and get all kinds of discounts on stuff.

Oh really? I thought you had to be at least 65 to apply... interesting. Then again I think I did see Jamie Lee Curtis on an AARP magazine cover (my dad subscribed to it I think) and she's 53... so it's possible. shrug

My parents get it too but they've refused to...good for them because when I get to be that old, I won't wanna apply either. neutral

I don't think being a member is bad. Both my parents are and they like it. It saves them money when traveling and on other things.

I just find recruiting people up to ten years in advance funny. lol

That's not very ambitious. I turned 48 last month and between raising kids and starting a business, I had let myself get pretty out of shape over the years. I'm now working hard to turn that around. My goal is to be 30 at 50. i.e. to be as heathy as a healthy 30 year old. I'm doing it through a drastic change to my diet and through nutritional supplements.

I started about 18 weeks ago and have been refining things as I go. Thus far I've lost 26 lbs, improved my eyesight, improved my blood pressure, improved my blood sugar control, and partially reversed my grey hair.

The goal is for my grey hair to be completely gone by the time I turn 50, which is about how long I think it'll take to fully reverse, and for my lab work and body fat to all be in the ideal range, not for a 50 year old, but for a 30 year old.

My other goal is to run my first ever 5k race when I turn 50.

eek you know how to get rid of grey hair? do tell!

and what you are doing sounds great! thumbs up!

I found 3 possible causes of grey hair

- lack of producing the cells that produce melanin when the root of the hair is formed.

- lack of enough copper needed to create teh enzymes those cells use to produce the melanin

- even with both of those working right, you need Tyrosine, which is what gets converted into melanin

So to make sure I'm covered, I take supplements to cover all 3

For the first I take both of these

- 125 mg DMAE 4 times/day

- 500 mg PABA 4 times/day

for the 2nd I take wheatgrass pills twice/day

for the 3rd, I take a Tyrosine supplement 3 times/day.

I suspect the 500 MG pf PABA 4 times/day would cover it by itself. DMAE also helps with brain function and the places I read about taking DMAE for restoring hair color referred to a form of DMAE that has PABA in it, so I think it's just the PABA. I take the DMAE anyway for it's other benefits.

After about 6 weeks or so of doing all of this, I have a noticable return of dark hair on my temples, which is where I look for evidence that it's working since that area was 100% white hair a couple of months ago. It appears that new hair folicles are producing melanin agian and based on hair growth cycles, it may take a couple of years to see full results.

And because it doesn't make a lot of sense to restore my hair color and have it continue to thin, I also use these

which will help prevent that.
