^ I remember! I wont say she gave an oscar worthy performance but she definitely earned that Golden Globe.

Awards like that are so funny. So much is dependent on the script, the money available to promote the flick, etc. I seem to recall her being good in it, but whatevs. shrug It was just nice to see one of these made-up things that (for the most part) portrayed life as I've witnessed it; there are so few of them.

I dont recall her status around this time but I suppose she wasn't a big enough start to warrant a more decent photo. She and Clive steal the film really. They have the best lines in the film and their characters seem the most emotionally damaged or unstable. Natalie is a mystery and that's all I will say. lol You've got to see it. You will be pleased that you did.

She's actually got as much "face time" as anyone else in the poster. I think it's really good, actually.

This was roundly considered her first "adult" role. Got her an Oscar nom and a Golden Globe win:

Nuh unh, they have her way at the back with two of the other actors covering up most of her face.

And the last part of what you said, kinda proves my point - she was the one everybody came away from the movie raving about, to the point where she even brought home awards. So if that's the case, why is she way at the back? If they weren't going to show them all equally on the cover, then if anything, she should be up at the front.

If you study the photo closely, the pecking order is as follows:

1. Julia Roberts - her shoulder appears to overlap Clive's

2. Clive Owen - likewise his shoulder overlaps Jude's

3. Jude Law - an ear covering part of Natalie's face

4. Natalie Portman way at the back with only part of her face shown and the other part covered by Clive's big ole ear.

Even the coloring is slighty skewed. Julia has this "glow" while the other cast members appear rather pale.

Alas, this is how it goes in Hollywood. In the old days, looking at some of those old promo posters, the second tier actors would appear small up against the first tier actors. Its funny. The whole top billing thing.

I see:

Roberts: Half-face

Law: Just over half-face

Owen: Just over half-face

Portman: More face showing than any of the other three, and sharing the centre with Law.

Why am I arguing over this? lol

P.S. Portman's role was considered "supporting" (I might take issue with that, but whatevs shrug). It seems like only one actor per gender can be classified as "the lead"? Maybe it's one of those SAG things

That's my preference. Either alphabetically or by order of appearance. Forget all of that A-list B-list crap.

The other dude's big-ass ear is all in her face, too.

They just threw her way in the back like she's an after-thought or something, which is fucked up because while I've never seen the movie, I've seen it mentioned alot, and it's always NATALIE that gets talked about the most. If they had to have four ppl on one cover, why didn't they just divide it up into four squares and give each of them one to themselves, Brady-Bunch style or something.

Yeah, I do need to check it out - I'm actually a Natalie fan of sorts (can you tell? lol ) so I have to see this at some point.

*sputters* ...Exactly!

And it's not fair because apparently Natalie kicked ass and pwnd everybody with her acting skills.

I love this film. Most people don't notice that the film consists of nothing but the start and end of the relationships. I also like the fact Clive Owen played Jude Laws role on stage....and that argument between Owen and Roberts where she just goes straight for his sexual pride is fantastically realistic Plus The Blowers Daughter is a genius choice

Great movie...and that song...awesome.
