'Closer' on my mind, this morning.
Something reminded me of it, on my drive to work.
Saw it when it came out. Very good (as far as these made-up things go).
Got me thinking, 'Sex makes a lot of people do some silly, silly things'.

I recall at least one person here saying they hated it (that it was too harsh). To me, it was about as realistic as these things get.

I didn't like Julia Roberts in it. I thought they could have found someone better for the part. Just my personal opinion. I love Judd Law so I had to watch it.

I'm not a Julia Roberts fan, but I recall her doing a perfectly fine job. Again, haven't seen it since it came out, though.

It has been a while since I have seen it as well. Maybe it is just because I am not a fan of hers either. I can't remember if Judd Law got naked in it. I think I need to watch it again!

I've never seen this movie, in fact, I thought this was about the tv show "The Closer".
I'm firmly planted in denial

Is that the one with Kyra Sedgwick? Regardless, I've never seen it.

I love this film. Most people don't notice that the film consists of nothing but the start and end of the relationships. I also like the fact Clive Owen played Jude Laws role on stage....and that argument between Owen and Roberts where she just goes straight for his sexual pride is fantastically realistic Plus The Blowers Daughter is a genius choice

I thought it was about the nine inch nails song.

I think that, as far as movies go, the whole thing is mostly "fantastically realistic".
Unfortunately. | |

Can't say I'm a Trent Reznor fan, but I used to date a girl who was and I'd say he understands that there's usually some really fucked-up shit goin' on in pretty much every kind of sex.

First time I watched this movie, I was at my parents house for the holidays. My pops was on his comp and my mom usually hibernates in her room...so the tv was all mine. This was on HBO and I was checkin it out. Lovin it...it was great.
Then, just before this convo between Clive and Julia happens, my Ma waddles in a plops on the couch next to me. I'm thinking this doesn't seem goo...but continued. Clive and Julia then launch into this lewed tirade or whatever was going on, it was just not appropriate viewing to be shared between a 31 y/o son and his 62 y/o mother. AWKWARD
then my ma asks me whats going on adn what they're arguing about. Couldn't do it. Had to abandon the movie and just tell her it was "adult and that she could keep watching it if she wanted....I went to smoke a fag.
several years before...me and my ma used to go out for dinner and a movie every once and a while, get her out of the house and whatnot....my pops never took her nowhere but vegas slots, so I did this...and enjoyed it. Good tims...except for when she insisted on watching "In The Cut" w/ Meg Ry and Mark "my cocks-out-the-whole-movie" Ruffalo

Love this film! Clive Owen was brilliant. Natalie Portman's character was tragic. Julia Robert's character could have been played by any number of actresses but I understood that she gave a certain "look" to the film.
Jude Law is always breathtaking. [Edited 7/26/11 13:36pm] I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Why'd they stick Natalie way at the back with two big-ass guy-ears covering most of her face? "I don't think you'd do well in captivity." - random person's comment to me the other day

I belive Clive appeared in the play as well. By play, I mean the movie was based on an actual London play IIRC. Oh Clive...dearest Clive. I remember you when you were the unbelievable side piece to Halle Berry's "The Rich Man's Wife". Oh we was so delicoius in Sin City. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

I just noticed that. There is an ear covering her eye! Bad photo. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

The other dude's big-ass ear is all in her face, too.
They just threw her way in the back like she's an after-thought or something, which is fucked up because while I've never seen the movie, I've seen it mentioned alot, and it's always NATALIE that gets talked about the most. If they had to have four ppl on one cover, why didn't they just divide it up into four squares and give each of them one to themselves, Brady-Bunch style or something. I dont recall her status around this time but I suppose she wasn't a big enough start to warrant a more decent photo. She and Clive steal the film really. They have the best lines in the film and their characters seem the most emotionally damaged or unstable. Natalie is a mystery and that's all I will say. You've got to see it. You will be pleased that you did. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

I used to get uncomfortable with this sort of thing. Now I just think, 'Yeah, like they haven't heard it all before.' If I'm watching TV with my parents and something comes on that they're not comfortable with, they'll tell me.

She's actually got as much "face time" as anyone else in the poster. I think it's really good, actually.
This was roundly considered her first "adult" role. Got her an Oscar nom and a Golden Globe win:
