Ahhh, Preach the gospel of Widescreen, my org friends! Pan & Scan is evil, and must be destroyed! I'm still pissed the Purple Rain and Christmas Story DVDs are only available in friggin' Pan & Scan! Its all a cummunist plot, I tell ya!!! Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Unfaithful really got to me. Great movie but what made it great was the subtle body language and the little things. The sex scenes were pretty good too.
What did you think of the ending? Even the alternate ending sucked, imo

I thought this thread was going to be about Americans who move to England or Australia and can't get used to using the word "letterbox" instead of "mailbox".

Because widescreen allows you to see everything that's intended to be in frame, as if you were at the movie theater (notice the theater screen is wider than your television screen). Standard generally cuts off the sides of the picture, which is why closeups sometimes seem off, etc. Pan & Scan is a digital process that allows you to see more of the original framing intended (wide) while keeping it in a standard screen aspect ratio (small). Scenes & shots with vital information on the far sides of the screen that would normally be cut off are put through this noticeable, jittery process. They create a digital pan (sideways sweeping motion) from one side of the screen to the other, a pan that doesn't exist in the actual film b/c the actual film is widescreen & you'd already be seeing everything intended to be in frame. Pan & Scan covers most of that framed area but condenses it to a smaller space. I just realized my explanation sucks donkey balls - can someone else jump in here?
