"Excuse me, who ordered the hamburger with AIDS?" This is the biggest reason why I finally started watching True Blood a few weeks ago.
Don't mess with my man, Lafayette.

I'm only halfway through season one right now. Maybe by next year, I can participate in the weekly episode threads.

I'll say it again: Nelsan Ellis deserved at least an Emmy nod for his work in Season 1 of True Blood.
I've found that newcomers to the show are a bit put off by some of the distracting subplots and not-as-compelling characters introduced in Season 2 (whereas longtime addicts have always been ready to forgive all sorts of shortcomings and absurdities ). But Lafayette probably has been one of the most consistently delivering elements in the series. [Edited 7/18/11 10:53am] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

When I tried watching the show, I kind of found his character a bit disturbing. Why did they often have him in makeup and semi-drag? Why couldn't they just make him a normal gay character? "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

[SPOILER ALERT]
they already have a ton of gay or bi "normal" characters... pam, eric (though i think he was just fucking that guy to get revenge), tara, russell, jesus, eddie, talbot, godric... and those are just the bigger characters.
they actually present a fairly diverse range of sexuality on that show [Edited 7/18/11 11:51am] Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely. - Lord Acton

When I first started watching the show, I was like One of my first posts was about how they had stereotyped Lafayette: A flamboyant gay Black man who was a drug dealer. Really?
But somewhere along the way, he became one of my favorite characters. "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

why did he punch them? | |

I didn't get that at all. After watching six episodes I saw a gay man that was a star baseball player in school and gives rednecks beatdowns. That's stereotypical?

I love Lafayette but I got bored with the series pretty quick.
This scene still cracks me the fuck up, though.

He's the number one reason that kept me interested and watching the show from day to this very day. Without Lafayette, there is no "True Blood". I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I've only seen the first 6 episodes of the series. I believe he was the only gay character at that time. I didn't realize they added more since then. Lafeyette is the only one I continuously heard about. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

That was my FIRST impression of him. When I first saw him... In the beginning... Not after watching for a while. Not now... "Love Hurts. Your lies, they cut me. Now your words don't mean a thing. I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..." -Cher, "Woman's World"

one of my favorite lala lines "i know every man whether straight gay or motherfucking george bush is TERRIFIED ..OF THE PUSSY!" man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
