I'm only halfway through season one right now. Maybe by next year, I can participate in the weekly episode threads. smile

I'll say it again: Nelsan Ellis deserved at least an Emmy nod for his work in Season 1 of True Blood. worship

I've found that newcomers to the show are a bit put off by some of the distracting subplots and not-as-compelling characters introduced in Season 2 (whereas longtime addicts have always been ready to forgive all sorts of shortcomings and absurdities lol). But Lafayette probably has been one of the most consistently delivering elements in the series.

When I tried watching the show, I kind of found his character a bit disturbing. Why did they often have him in makeup and semi-drag? Why couldn't they just make him a normal gay character?

[SPOILER ALERT]

they already have a ton of gay or bi "normal" characters... pam, eric (though i think he was just fucking that guy to get revenge), tara, russell, jesus, eddie, talbot, godric... and those are just the bigger characters.

they actually present a fairly diverse range of sexuality on that show

When I first started watching the show, I was like confused

One of my first posts was about how they had stereotyped Lafayette: A flamboyant gay Black man who was a drug dealer. Really?

But somewhere along the way, he became one of my favorite characters. biggrin

I didn't get that at all. After watching six episodes I saw a gay man that was a star baseball player in school and gives rednecks beatdowns. That's stereotypical?

I love Lafayette but I got bored with the series pretty quick.

This scene still cracks me the fuck up, though. lol

He's the number one reason that kept me interested and watching the show from day to this very day. Without Lafayette, there is no "True Blood".

I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I've only seen the first 6 episodes of the series. I believe he was the only gay character at that time. I didn't realize they added more since then. Lafeyette is the only one I continuously heard about.

That was my FIRST impression of him. When I first saw him... In the beginning... Not after watching for a while. Not now...
