Texas dad throws 4-year-old son from car 'like bag of garbage' on highway

The father of a 4-year-old boy tossed him from their car "like a bag of garbage" as they drove along a cactus-lined West Texas highway in the middle of the night, police said.

The child, with bruises on his neck and more than 500 cactus spines in his body, was discovered cowering on the side of Interstate 20 near Sweetwater, Texas, around 3 a.m.

Carlos Rico, 22, was arrested hours after the little boy was rescued early Tuesday by a local high school basketball coach. Rico was charged with child endangerment and held on $50,000 bail.

Rico told police that he was driving from Lubbock to Saginaw when God told him to choke the little boy and throw the child out of the car.

Rico could face upgraded charges of attempted murder because the boy is under age 6. The child's stepmother came to Sweetwater to take care of him, officials said.

There was no history of abuse in the child's family, said state Child Protective Services spokeswoman Marleigh Meisner.

Hope he gets his in jail.

God told him to do it. Yeah right. The kid was probably being a brat and the bastard father lost his temper. I bet if they ask that kid, he will shed light on other mistreatment by his father.

No history of child abuse Just because the dad hadn't been arrested for child endangerment before doesn't mean it hasn't happened.

Thank God that angel of a coach picked up the kid off the highway before a cyote or other wild animal got to him. I say we put dad's balls in a blender, no more kids for that POS!

I know it's a tale as old as time itself...BUT...it just seems like there's been an unsual amount of gruesome abuse/murder stories within just the past few months.

The child is a real solider to have survived such cruel punishment.

Hope he and all the other childern that don't make the news are safe and in good hands.

I've tried to point this out before to no avail. People are being no more cruel to each other now (including children) than at any other point in human history. In fact, its very likely we're being kinder to each other. But every story like this now gets sensationalized, hits 1,000 internet news outlets and 10,000 forums and blogs and all of a sudden EVERYBODY knows about it and is outraged. "Did you hear about this?!" "Can you believe that?!" This same evil nonsense has been going on since before we walked fully upright.

That being said, this is still some foul nonsense. I hope "God" tells his cell mates to have some fun with him.

Child abuse needs to stop.
