1988 WAS THE SHIT!!!!!!!!

I graduated high school in 1988. I bought first car in 1988. I started college in 1988. I got my first apartment in 1988. Prince got butt ass naked on an album cover in 1988.

I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart.

I was 13. Guns n Roses were getting huge and def Leppard was having a good comeback. George Micheal's Faith had a bunch of singles from the previous year. Headbangers ball was still metal and still hosted by adam curry I think. Lot's of people were playing Nintendo.

It really was a great year.

OMG love that Karyn White video, another good song was Most Of All-Jody Watley. And of course APOM smile

Anyways I remember 88' being a fun year cause I was just 5. I loved kindergarten and had the Locomotion on 45 with my name on it and a memory game of the same name. I started collecting board games...and I had hand me downs of a view master with slides including Thriller video ones, and the Like a Virgin record so I was all over those that year.

Mom graduated from college that year and got her career started, so everyone was excited too. And my great-grandmother flew here to live with us so that was nice too. My parents kept going on trips and kept spoiling me with a lot of clothes from there.

1988 was an exciting year!

The first acid house parties at secret locations were held. Very exciting and new. I'm still thankfull to have lived in the era of the first electronic music and house parties!

I had a huge fight with my parents, was not allowed to go to Germany on my own to see Lovesexy mad

I lost my virginity while Purple Rain played in the background lol

I had a yellow O'Neill bathing suit.

I sprayed my ponytail up in the air.

Womack & Womack 'teardrops' was a big hit and I loved it!

The disco were I worked had the first lasershow. I had an image of MJ in laser. Kewl.

Gaydisco's and areas were fun and hip. They didn't go to the gym yet, it was just about fun. In Amsterdam there was a fun, partying and lush gaycrowd that made the city vibrate. With the infamous dark rooms everywhere lol

XTC became usance. Also mushrooms were common. In stead of the pain in the ass drunk guys, the atmosphere was all lovey-dovey and fun.

Dancing in cages and on stage, in stead of the boring hopping around your bag, became the new thing. Especially the stages around the dancefloors and professional dancers to work the crowd was great. There was a huge gap between the traditional country side weekends with mainstream radio hits, guys drunk at the bar and girls 'dancing' in a group around their bags. On the other hand were the underground house parties, the gay discos and parties and the celebration of extravagance. In Amsterdam there were the Roxy, It and the Reguliersdwarsstraat. Just one big fun time. Never experienced anything like that again. Had the right age at the right time, I guess.

Sorry for this way to long post

99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

If you younger orgers think '88 was awesome, then cool for you. I feel the same about 1978 (I was 7!). biggrin

The 80s were a CRAZY FUN TIME to be growing up and I thank God that was my time. Come 1990 things really did change...Somebody In Charge decided having fun and being happy was no longer fashionable. Man, that sucked.

me too smile I know some of his other stuff now from the first album and it's awesome smile Better than Sgt Pepper lol lol

I found that cassette in 1994 after years of it not being played and it had the BEST music on it! From Cover Girls to Madonna to Salt N Pepa, wow! And Alphabet Street was on it too but I didn't know what it was....and years later when I heard it in the late 90's/early 00's and heard that NOOO in the middle of the song with the instrumental it hit me where I heard it!

Know who else I liked thank to my mom? Belinda Carsile songs like Circle in the Sand and Heaven is a Place on Earth smile Wish I had the Bad album, but my uncle played the title track on his headphones and I remember watching the video then....I don't believe I saw anymore Bad era videos but there is a possibility I could have and forgot or was in the other room, I did see EO though but it wasn't till 89'

'88 Is Great!

That was our logo in High School...I graduated in 1988.

Some of the things I remember from back then;

The clothes (come on, you know u had a Coca-Cola shirt if u were in High School then!)

The hairstyles;

...and the TECHNOLOGY (remember the granddaddy of the iPod?);

By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

Can you guys tell me something about 88'.

That was the year of Bruce Springsteen' Tunnel of Love Express tour. He took the E Street Band out on what was - for him - an abbrieviated jaunt, in support of the Tunnel of Love album (which had been released in late '87). I'm told Prince attended one of the Minneapolis concerts.

To shake things up, Springsteen jettisoned many of the "warhorses" of his previous tours, added a horn section ("The Horns of Love") and had the band switch from the stage positions they'd occupied for 15 years previous.

During a live radio broadcast of their first set, from Stockholm, The Boss announced that he and E Street would be joining the Human Rights Now! tour, in support of Amnesty International, at the conclusion of their own dates. The other headliners of Human Rights Now! were Sting, Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman and Youssou N'Dour. Patti Scialfa, who had been featured prominently on the Tunnel tour (standing in Clarence Clemons' old position), took a reduced role on the Amnesty shows.

During the Express tour, it hit the news that Springsteen and his wife of less than three years, actress Julianne Phillips, had separated and that he'd taken up with Scialfa (whom he'd eventually marry, in 1991):

When the first single "If You let me stay" was realeased in 87 I was not too impressed, but when I heard Wishing Well shortly after I was hooked and have been a fan ever since. I was so pissed when he cancelled his show in my hometown because of political reasons, I guess that must have been in 88 hmmm. Well I have seen him live a lot since, but I am still sad I missed that tour pout.

I discovered If You Let Me Stay about a month ago when it was on the radio and found out what it was and went crazy. I saw a live performance of it online on some European show and he's AMAZING! So hot, such great movement though I always knew he could dance and so much passion, so much like MJ, Prince and James Brown though when I heard him on the radio, I thought he may have been Stevie Wonder at first though something was different.

Cool cool ! Yeah he has elements of all the artists you mentioned and that amazing voice of course music. The best concert I have ever been to in my life was his show of the Vibrator tour in 1995. And I have been to a lot of great concerts in my life including about 50 by Prince wink.
