Anybody know how I could make something like this?

I'd order one (even though I think it's ugly), but it's only sold in China and the manu. says it wouldn't ship:

Essentially, I'd be looking to make something like this (waterproof, tent-like shape, but without the bottom - the ground would serve as the "base". Don't care about the pyramid on the top or the flap - the front can stay open). Basically, a little, triangle-shaped, sun/rain shelter.

I figured it would be easy enough to find a tent like this, but they all seem to be new-fangled and bigger. sad

Org DIY-ers? Or does anybody know where I could order a really simple tent like this?

I should mention that a tent might not be an option, as it would have to sit on concrete.

Do you always ask tough questions like this???

Check out youtube...they have directions for making just about

anything you want.

Hope you don't have as much trouble as this guy lol

If I were you, I'd still put in a bottom. Who the heck wants to

sit around on concrete, unless you're on a chair?!

This website may have some possibilities..there seems to be a lot to pick from.

Sorry about the huge address. I've honestly forgotten how to shorten up

web addresses with a word or two lol

Already got some cushions that could serve as the bottom! smile

Thanks! You're awesome! Will check out the links when I have more time!

I have no idea on the how's, but I like the concept. I think it'll be cute for outdoors even though I'm not crazy about the pyramid shape, I think the more modern dome shaped tents would look better if you could get a nice texture and color. Probably need someone who could sew and get a basic tent frame only and work from there.

I'd make a copper pipe pyramid that breaks down ( including a base pipe 4 piece )

friends actually have something just like I mentioned for Reiki ~ it travels well and we can set it up quickly and almost anywhere

anyway then I would buy bulk canvas or bug netting and make the cover

So what are you making this for ?

you could also use plumbing pvc ( it stinks though ) and glue it together

I think if we lived closer I could help you make the frame pretty easy

we have made sweat lodge ( temp ones ) with this method

you can also paint the plastic if you want and make it a break down type as well to make it easy to pack

go to homdepot or menards with the picture and a diagram of what you want and let them suggest materials.

Well, I don't want to waste your time, so I'll tell you that the youtube

link is kinda just a joke. lol But the kid tried darned hard to built a blanket

tent in his room. It just didn't work out lol

As for the second link, the more I explored it, the more I realized that most

of them are more dome shaped tents...but there's really some nice ones.

Guess it depends on what you're using it for.

bamboo is actually a pretty good idea if you know where some is and are wanting to save money. i'm trying to think where you could get light weight steel rods without having to go into the industrial sector. you'd need what? Eight? Eight I think... and something to serve as elbows but that could be lots of different things. I would recommend making something that is tied to the poles as a cover. Don't try slipping something over the poles, you are going to drive yourself crazy in planning and assembly if you try that method. Not saying it can't be done simply if you already have a plan but why make things complicated?

You can easily get vinyl or some other water resistant material from a fabric store. You need a machine that will take a big needle and thick gauge thread and you can have a shroud for that in under an hour. I'd make a seperate triangular cone shaped cover just for the top and make it where the cover ties to all poles including bottom poles, you will need bottom poles going across to stabelize it since you do not have a bottom.

If you want to get REAL damn cheap.... try thick PVC or CPVC or some other plumbing type crap that comes in long poles... why? because it's cheap as dirt and you can get it easily at home depot or lowes... you can also cut it easily.... you might also be able to use plumbing joints (which are also dirt cheap) for the elbows... which is convenient because they sell ALL KINDS of weird plumbing joints that would give you plenty of options... but 2 things.... it looks crappy so you'd want to cover all parts and it's lightweight so if you don't weight that shit down it's going to blow away with the first wind... and no matter what... if anybody falls on it it's going to topple... but you know what? You'd have the same issue with lightweight steel.

If you have to make it, you might wnt to look at some type of alloy pipe but you are going to pay out the rear unless you get lucky.

Oh shit, somebody already said PVC... my bad.

but if you want cheap, seriously... especially if you make something and you don't really know what you are doing... you don't want to lose a lot of money. You probably won't get too much cheaper than PVC.

Thanks, everybody! It doesn't need to be a tent shape, just something that's covered on four sides (top, sides, back) - e.g. it could have a flat top. Something like mosquito net wouldn't do, 'cause it would have to provide sun protection.

Ace, I'd think you could buy a simple mosquito netting (like the kind they sell at Ikea), and suspend the ring from the ceiling of whatever space you'd be in.

(girl not included no no no! )

If the mosquito netting is too thin, it'd be nothing to drop by some Queen Street fabric store and buy a few yards of a thicker material of your choice. Also, some home and garden places sell outdoor textiles made specifically for sunblock purposes.

Thanks, man! This'd be for an outdoor space, though, so no ceiling from which to suspend. sad
