It scares me too. Just when I've put that painting out of my mind, I see his avatar and I get the heebiejeebies all over again

Well, I still think they'd frighten me less than having you at the end of my bed.

I'm glad there's another thread to discuss that painting, where I don't have to see that boys face...It is his eyes, I looked in them, errr, horrible.
Don't know what it is. Freaked me out a bit last nite.

You bastardo Haystack... I thought I was safe... I didn't see his eyes, I was safe... I caught a glimpse of his chin and scrolled the page away from those eyes.
Fuck that's had me laughing hard though!!

Here's another painting that gives me the creeps.
Notice that there appears to be the face of the 'devil' in the cunningly contrived folds of the shawl worn by Siân Owen, the principal character (in the painting). http://www.salem-wales.co.uk Enjoy!

I guess I'm gullible. Where is this devil? Hard to explain, but I'll try. The 'devil' on HER left arm is looking towards the prayer books on the pew. Imagine the small blue area in the middle of the arm area is the right eye and the left eye is right on the tip of her elbow. Below the 'eyes' the green area looks like some kind of animal nose with the mouth area below that. The curved red part of the pattern that rises up and slightly to our left of the 'eye' seems to create a horn effect. The fringe(?) at the bottom of the arm part of the shawl creates a beard effect, too. Hope you can see what I'm getting at. It's quite contrived, to be honest, and you can only imagine that the artist intentionally put it there, but you can see why people thought at the time that the painting was 'cursed'. (It's not just me who invented this 'devil' thing - the people at the time were, apparently scared stiff of it). Still, it used to scare me to death when I was little. Mind you, that had more to do with the old woman's face more than anything else. Miserable cow. _____ [This message was edited Fri Feb 14 5:00:36 PST 2003 by Haystack]

I would have been scared of it too as a child, though. Thanks for going to the trouble of describing it! . [This message was edited Fri Feb 14 5:06:56 PST 2003 by mrdespues]
