oh really..
With the exception of the ivy legues, The schools in the major conferences(ACC,SEC, PAC10, BIGEAST..) have amazing facilities.
Most of these schools get millions from there football team alone.
College football is big business is not even funny...
You dont think teams just play each other for free. Plus selling paraphernalia/ sold out studiums filling thousands of students.
Its sicken
All I'm saying is that the money from the athletic department does not go to build research facilities for the university.
Title IX guarantees that football and basketball revenues fund other sports, not academics.
^ Oh COME ON! without football or basketball half the student body would be going to the school.
They may not paying directly to the school but football is sure as hell indirectly paying for the school.

The NFL doesn't ask schools for their athletes.
The athletes come to the NFL.
Same with the NBA.
They graduate, express their interest, wait for an invite to the Combine and/or wait to be drafted.
If you aren't drafted, you go from door to door, showcasing and selling your skill and ability. If no one wants you, you get a job and hope someone does before you are too old to play.
^ you cant tell me teams dont pay off agents to bribe these students to playing for them.
Yes... it own really happens to popular players but none the less...
It happens all the time.
NFL and NBA teams can't pay off agents to bribe students. They have a draft.
If a player has an agent, they are not eligible to play for a NCAA school.
Pay for play college?
Yes, that happens, but for a limited number of players. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think. |

No it is not paying for the school.
Show me a NCAA Division ! school supported by football and basketball
I can tell you right now there are none.
Trust me. I am a sports fan, college and pro.
Sports pays strictly for sports at a school. Someone has to build those stadiums and arenas. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think. |

Of course. It's wrong to pay only certain sports, some say. I say that would just reflect the realities of the world. |

They all make a contribution and they all give their time......If u r going to pay the sports ppl u should also look after the Arts other wise NO
I think of the Reggie Bush situation. Do y'all have any idea how much money USC and the NCAA made in #5 USC jersey sales alone in the years he was playing there? It's ridiculous.
As for the college activities besides football and basketball...please. Several of these schools wouldnt have volleyball, water polo, lacrosse and all that if it wasnt for their football programs and the money they bring in. As soon as some company pays tens of millions of dollars to have the badminton championships televised and sponsered by them, then those secondary sports will have an argument.
As for football and basketball...students should not be "paid" but they should get some kind of a monthly allowance for clothes, food, etc. (I think they do get a small amount now but it's only for them to eat when they are on the road) Taking some kid who runs a 4.4 40 yard dash out of the ghetto where his mother can barely afford to keep food on the table for her other children and telling him the only money he can have over the next 3-4 years is what his mom can afford to give him while the school and the NCAA gets rich...SILLY.

the school administrators, the athletic department, coaches, etc are all gettin paid out the but even more now because of television coverage, internet, etc. etc......the fab 5 hit the tip of that iceberg back in the 80's and began to demand at least a portion of proceeds to the school. we wont even talk about how the administrators pockets were lined away from the school ...ya know???
if students athletes dont deserve a lil change for their efforts then the owners dont neither... THE B EST BE YOURSELF AS LONG AS YOUR SELF ISNT A DYCK[/r]

Some say that scholarships are more than is enough compensation.
Others say no pay those kids !!
Personally i think a scholarship is enough. From a person who has to pay for school a scholarship is more than enough. However, i dont think these kids shoould lose there scholarship just because they can't perform well in their sport. That's not fair and its a slap in the face to student atheletes.
I think the student has to keep a certain gpa to maintain it though.
[Edited 7/15/11 14:20pm]
Hell yeah, everybody else is getting paid!!! Fuck all that sports scholarship shit....that is not compensation enough if the athlete gets injured and loses any chance of going pro. These colleges make wayyyy too much off of these athletes up front and on the side. Some of these coach salaries make me go I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!
RIP Dick Clark, Whitney Houston, Don Cornelius, Heavy D, and Donna Summer. |
