Report: Jordan could face $1 million penalty on golf course

This seems silly and way over the top IMHO:

Report: Jordan could face $1 million penalty on golf course

(MCT)

The Reno Gazette-Journal reports: Michael Jordan is set to tee it up in the American Century Classic in Tahoe, Nev., this week and could face a $1 million fine if he's paired up with a current NBA player.

As owner of the Charlotte Bobcats, Jordan is prohibited any contact with current player

yeah I think that the prohibited "contact" should be limited to basketball. But is seems like an easy fix just do not pair him with an NBA player. Even if they are paired randomly they can work it out in this case or he can choose to not play. But yeah I agree, even if it is all voluntary conduct the rule is this case seems to be too broad in scoop.

yeah but the rules are done for a reason outside the scoop the the contact they will have playing golf.

sometimes I will say the rules are the rules.... but I also say if you think a rule is wrong then lobby to change it. I think the case here is the rule is poorly worded and may need to be revised. If not mike can pay the fine or what ever.

then I suggest he recuse himself if he is paired with an NBA player

I assume they mean from other teams, but I don't quite understand that rule. Any contact at all?! They're in the same profession, how is he suppoosed to avoid all NBA players and why would it be good for the game for players/owners to be totally isolated from each other?

i agree

In other fields, people sign non-conflict of interest statements. It's a binding document for decision making, but it does not mean you can't share a friendly round of golf. What if Jordan is put on a plane next to an NBA player, or seated at a restaurant next to...

Mark Cuban was with the Mavs at the Espys last night accepting their award and kicking it after. What's the difference? Is he gonna be fined now?

yeah, in that article about the ring that you posted it suggests that he might! It's kind of silly.

But he would probably gladly pay the fine to be at the party
