So the answer is DUCT TAPE?!?

How many of you ran out (with the other sheep) and bought plastic and Duct tape?

Is this the answer? Have you seen these freaks on the news? Does someone has stock in 3M? Does it all just seem surreal?

What greater way to stimulate the economy than by causing mass panic...wasn't this the basis of most 1999 into 2000 celebrations? Everyone was waiting for something to jump off and it sort of didn't for a year and a half.

The Federal Government issued a statement regarding our current Orange terror alert status that people should buy Duct tape and plastic sheeting for their doors and windows.

Talk about creating mass panic, people at Home Depots around the country are getting into fist-fights over Duct tape.

Absolutely stupid.

In the local LA news they're even showing Home Depot workers showing how you should seal your doors...riiight, underpaid shelf stockers showing people how to seal against a chemical attack. Like they're experts. NO, it helps SALES.

A doctor was interviewed recently and he confirmed that it does not protect.

Plus all this water and canned goods and duct tape, all this is for an earthquake. WHich is good to get FOR earthquake preparedness or flood, tornado prepardness, but NOT for a suppossed "chemical attack".

If you bought duct tape based on what the news or government told you, I recommend you look deeeply into yourself, ask yourself questions about your intelligence, honest questions about what is going on with you and why you act like a SHEEP! Why you let the mainstream media control your life. Why you let TV tell you what to do.

Also, the way the government and the media have tied attacks with a Islamic religious event says something really, really bad about what they are doing to another religion.

Not all are extremists. Not all evil. In Christianity there are just as much extremists, cough...Ashcroft!...cough, and evil people as there are also good people...in both or most religions.

It's all propaganda machine grinding.

Those Osama Bin Laden tapes...NOT CONFIRMED IT WAS HIM!

And another thing...color coded alerts? What about color blind people or blind people. What are they to do? You see how it's ridiculous.

It's true. Buy all the duct tape you can, along with some paper clips and a Swiss Army knife, and you too can fight terrorism! Early reports show MacGyver and Jack Dalton preparing to infiltrate Baghdad with nothing but their belts and some chewing gum.

Nope, didn't go out and buy duct tape. I bought some chocolate and champagne instead. Hey, if it's my last day on this planet, there's no way in hell I'll be spending it duct taping plastic to my windows and biting my fingernails in front of the damn television.

NEWS FLASH; THE TRICK WORKED!
---

Duct tape makers swing into high gear
By Gary Strauss, USA TODAY

Duct tape manufacturers are quintupling production to meet demand from a skittish U.S. public intent on protecting homes from terrorists.
Women buy duct tape and plastic sheeting at a Yonkers, N.Y. Home Depot.
By Robert Deutsch, USA TODAY
Consumers have snapped up the ubiquitous adhesive since Monday, when federal authorities listed it among key products that could provide protection against chemical or biological attack.
Manco, which supplies Wal-Mart, Lowe's and Ace Hardware under the Duck brand, will boost production at its Hickory, N.C., factory this weekend, adding six shifts. Rival Nashua, which supplies Home Depot, Costco and Auto Zone, began shifting production from industrial tapes to consumer products at its Franklin, Ky., plant Thursday.
"Huge demand started on the East Coast Monday, and it has rolled across the rest of the country as the week wore on," says Gary Holmes, spokesman for Nashua parent Tyco International.
"Sales are unbelievable," says Tom Taylor, president of Home Depot's Eastern division, a 650-store network from Maine to Florida. "There's an incredible rush for duct tape in major markets."
Home Depot began poaching stores in other markets Tuesday and also boosted orders from vendors. On Wednesday, 26 trucks chocked with duct tape and plastic sheeting began resupplying depleted Washington, D.C., and New York stores.
Home Depot outlets in those markets are posting duct tape sales increases of up to 1,000%. As far south as Miami, sales of protective supplies are up 200% to 600%, Taylor says.
Demand also is strong for sheeting, flashlights, batteries and knives amid stepped up security since Friday, when the terrorism threat level was raised to orange, or "high."
Entrepreneurs, using security as a marketing tool, are selling duct tape on Internet auction site eBay.
Duct tape and sheeting is recommended to seal vents, windows and other openings from chemical and biological fallout. Whether that can adequately protect consumers is open to debate; stocking up may be more for soothing jittery souls.
"We don't think anything's going to happen, but it's better to be safe than sorry," says Melissa Jackson of Tulsa, who bought 11 rolls of duct tape.
The adhesive was developed for military use during World War II as a container sealant made from duck cloth. Following the war, it became better known as duct tape for widespread use in sealing ventilation ducts. These days, it's an all-purpose household item with uses as varied as wart removal and emergency repairs. Each year, $300 million worth of duct tape is sold in the USA.
How long will demand last? "When it's a hurricane, we can predict how long," Taylor says. "But this? We're in uncharted territory."

While I must admit that this thread did make me feel a little bit better about things (like the champagne and chocolate idea), I am also not 100% convinved that there's nothing to be concerned over.

I live in NYC and was 4 blocks away from the World Trade when it all went down (literally). So I have bought a couple of flashligths and some extra first-aid related items. Gonna get a radio that's battery operated and some extra food. My family and friends also have plans on where to meet up and how to contact each other. Cause you never know! As for the duct tape and plastic, if it comes down to a chemical attack -I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that we're all just gonna be f-cked either way.

Awww...that felt good to get off my chest.
