Me too nod The only exception being The Godfather. I really liked that adaptation.

The movies may not be so bad themselves, but after reading the book they usually disappoint. Of course, adapting a book is not easy. It's a completely different art form, and we as readers also tend to create our own movie in our heads while we're reading, but the movie should simply capture the feeling (of the book).

However, I will still continue reading the books first. I always love to get to know the original story.

The Godfather is an excellent book.

I don't own it, but I should. Great movie of course.

Oh! I forgot! I love what they did with The Reader as well. A very good adaptation, in my opinion.

Yeah, you probably should if you find it to be excellent wink I want to own more books I consider good. Lately I've just been borrowing them from the library. I don't like that.

  • I'm a big Stephen King fan. Although I watch the movies, I usually complain. There is a handful that aren't so bad, but I hate most of them. confused
  • "The Amityville Horror" was a good book. nod But I didn't see the movie until years later, and I was so disappointed.
  • I read "Water for Elephants" a few years ago, and refuse to see the movie. They cast that sparkly vampire as the lead! hmph!

  • I've never seen any of the "Hannibal Lecter" movies, but read all the books.

I'd much rather read. reading geek

Reading is often a much better experience nod

For instance, Chocolat is a great book and it had lots of potential to make a good movie. The cast was excellent, but the movie is still so weak because some aspects of the story that were neglected (maybe due to censorship, don't know) are just too important.

I thought the eagles shredded Nazgul batwings? Ah... my nerd is coming out... damn.

Sorry to correct you guys but the Nazgul are the Ringwraiths, Ring-wraiths, Black Riders, Dark Riders, the Nine Riders, or simply the Nine.....

Whereas the gigantic flying pterosaur-like, or wyvern-like creatures that the Nazgul rode are called 'Fell beasts' or 'Hell-Hawk' flipped off

wow. Impressive!

Seldom do I notice these types of things. I hope it doesn't make me unobservant. I usually let the story take me. Unless it's a b-movie...it usually works out.

I did take a history of cinema class. Was taught "willing suspension of Disbelief" It's the concept that U enter a movie with. U're prepping for the movie and in your head, your preparing for watching a movie and all it entails and that your brain tells itelf"this is a movie, not everything is gonna be perfect, great, or even work at all in actual reality...be prepaared, pay attention, and LET IT RIDE"

of course there are occasions where it doesn't work. After I learned of this, I just let it ride now...really. At the end of the day...it's a movie...not a documentary(the old kind, not these new theatrical kind) Gotta confess...was roped into watching Ramona & Beezus(cuzzin's kids)...and was doing this kind of "couldn't happen, happened this way mistake mistake mistake" the whole time. Like when the paint in th garage fell...first...who has that much pint...and when does paint collect pretty blob after pretty blob on a car in said garage.

Black folks who spend their whole lives and time helping white people through their trials and tribulations.... the magical negro. Hence, I don't do see these types of movies with Mr. Smith or any other Black's who've achieved "stardom". Black males dressing in drag.... men who have to put on a dress to find their backbone. This speaks volumes and explains a lot.....

I too don't bother with American films anymore, it's very hard to get me out of my house to see a movie these days.

I'm suprised these two haven't been mentioned prior ot page 5:

1. Dumb damsel in distress- Who stands there to watch others be eaten and killed.

Or chooses to run away in high heels where she will invariably trip and fall, thereby imperiling the whole group because no one leaves a blonde behind . . .

2. Running from a moving vehicle by running down the middle of the street. Why make it easy?

Use sidewalks, shrubbery . . . .

Try taking a right angle off the roadway.

Subheading - People who can outrun speeding cars for blocks as the car is chasing them, or conversely they can run and catch a fleeing vehicle.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

yeahthat

And the gratuitous sex scene during an attack: alien, monster, nuclear, homocidal maniac...

It doesn't matter; they just needed to shag right then and there! confused

I agree with so many on here but it took me a few moment to lock into a few that really do irk me.

1st Star Trek XI, love this movie but I'm bias about it anyway. But that star that exploded threatening to destory the entire galaxy is hard to get past, even knowing why it was said, it brings up a whole host of other questions of why does this star need to be a black hole.

Inception, love, love this movie, but I don't care what the director said, those kids at the end were dressed the same way doing exactly the same thing they were doing when he last saw them, and the little boy saying they're building a house on the hill synched for me.

???

I don't think such a star exists. That could threaten a galaxy? How? Even if it became a black hole it wouldn't threaten the entire galaxy.

How many black holes are there?

To use a technical term, gobs. Astronomers have discovered several dozen likely "supermassive" black holes in the cores of fairly nearby galaxies, plus many more in the distant objects known as quasars. They have discovered perhaps a dozen or two likely stellar-mass black holes in the Milky Way galaxy (plus one in a satellite galaxy), and a few possible intermediate-mass black holes in the Milky Way and other galaxies. Yet these don't even qualify as the tip of the iceberg - more like a tiny ice chip. Supermassive black holes may inhabit the cores of all galaxies with central bulges of stars, and thousands of stellar-mass black holes may inhabit the Milky Way, with thousands more in each of billions of other galaxies.

No, Spock says the supernova threatened the entire galaxy. Maybe I should have used supernove instead of star. But yes, the solar system would have rolled better.

Yeah. No to incest once removed.

It irks me when someone is in danger, and to "protect" them no one warns them of the danger so that they unknowingly walk right into it. Or when someone tells the bad guy they're calling the cops. So dumb and dead! Why not say they're going to pick up a pizza then never come back!

Nope.

The massive black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy isn't consuming the galaxy inside out.

We'd collide with another galaxy first. (Galaxies do collide, but you would think with all the space out there that they would simply miss each other. )
