Did you get what I was trying to say though? Did you read what I was trying to imply? I'm saying that there's no difference between age discrimination and racism.

Legally there is. Socially and culturally there is.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

I did and it was factually and legally incorrect. I pointed out many examples where AGE is used to limit access to some good, service, or privilege, or right.

your argument would have it so a 1 year old could vote.

age is not a protected class in the same way race is.

Did you even read what I just said? I'm not going to argue with you.

Yet you reply. So post the law that says age is a protected class and then explain the examples of age based discrimination that are widely used.

We're not arguing though. That's the thing. You're pushing for something that ain't coming. lol I know you're itching to argue, but I'm not in the mood to argue, so let's just agree to disagree and you go find someone else to pick on.

It's interesting that the one group of people that seems to be a-ok discriminating against is children.

Personally I don't care about some lame restaurant decides but it is fucked up that we have an attitude that everyone deserves equal treatment....except kids, of course. We can ban them from eateries, hit them as punishment, etc...but think of ever doing that to an adult and all shit breaks loose.

Why start the ban at 6 and under? Just make it an 18 and over establishment.

We have movie theatres and bowling alleys that nobody under 18 is allwed at past a certain hour (6 pm). We already have other 18 and up establishments.....they are called bars and nightclubs and restaurant lounges. This is really no different. He should have just been smart and made sure he didn't offer high chair ands kept his feeling to himself....like most other restaurants that prefer adult customers.

Some people have no fucking control of their kids. I have 2, and when I did eat out, folks would often stop by our table and mention how they cringed when they saw us sit and were impressed. One even paid some of our tab once. People are so stupid. If your one or 2 year old still throws her plate and screams, stick to picnics or other places where the environment is suitable for her to learn social skills without her experiencing horrific stares. Be aware of where you are bringing your child and his/her limitations, and be considerate of other patrons.

Going to church doesn’t make you a Christian, any more than standing in a garage makes you a car.

The problem I see is that these threads sometimes get out of control with people trying to convince each other that their way of thinking is the right way and the other way of thinking is stupid so the tone of the posts begins to denegenerate exponentially.

lol

Not saying that was your case specifically, but pay attention and you'll see what I mean. shrug

I don't know if I'd ban kids altogether but I wouldn't have a problem asking a parent to take their kid outside and calm them in some way, if I was a restaurant owner/manager.

IMO parents have to prepare their kids ahead of time for such outings. Many times the kids are already tired, hungry, stressed etc before they even get to the restaurant. Other times, kids are acting up because they are in the company of other children or they are trying to get attention from their parents.

shrug If this guy can handle the potential loss of profit from banning kids then oh well...he does what he has to in order to keep the faithful and high end cusstomers.

he said on a TV interview that his busisness has picked up! He claimed that people told him they drove X extra miles to go there because of the BAN. I take that with a grain of salt. Even if it is true could have more to do with getting some media attention and may be short lived.

But I got to say: two simular places one has the ban and the other dosen't I would go to the one with the ban. (unless there was a longer wait I hate waits)

i was so mad, it was veterans day and some place had free meals for vets. Well someone took me there as a surprise... and we waited for 4 hours to save $10 on a tiny steak. (it was a limited menu of about 5 things all under $10).

I was so mad but I never let her know... it was sweet of her. but still 4 hours! damn!

I just don't get the outrage.
This is no different than having adult communities or adult resorts (which I've been to and wouldn't do any other way anymore). This is about grown folk having a choice of experience. This is not about work or educational descrimination or something detrimental like that.

Because kids don't already have a shitload of stuff dedicated and catering to them, right? neutral

Exactly. And I even commented that in those places I would never consider complaining, or even getting annoyed if I could help it. lol But we can't possibly understand why it should be OK for kids to do whatever they want wherever they want because we don't have any. rolleyes

Of course this is discrimination. Age discrimination.

Is that legal/allowed? In general YES.

Is it fair in this case? Like HELL YES.

The argument that folk can't have an opinion on stuff they don't have/are is bullshit. Does experience help form an opinion? Of course, but there are a million angles to everything so yea everyone can have one.

I've taken care of plenty of kids (nieces, nephews, friends') and was a foster parent it's not like any of us just stepped off a spaceship and have NO idea what a kid is about just because we don't have our own. I don't have to have sprung forth from my vageene a child to know that I prefer eating a quiet dinner to one seated next to a screamin child.

lol Depends on what you would call stupid. wink

But suppose I would own a restaurant and you would come in acting all stupid, bothering other guests, like some kid running around that can't stop shouting or whining and saying irritating stupid shit, then why the hell couldn't I tell you to leave? It's my fucking restaurant and you're bothering my guest you know!? lol

That said, I don't get that age limit of 6 AT ALL. I mean, as if a 7 year old kid would be able to behave! And what are they going to do, check their ID's at the door?! Now that's stupid if you ask me rolleyes

I'm all for it. My husband and I go out for dinner once or twice a week and I hate sitting near unruly brats who's parents are oblivious. If it's somewhere like a burger joint I don't care, but at a place where I'm spending a good whack of money, I don't want kids there.

Some parents have taught their kids how to behave in nice restaurants and they enforce that behaviour, but most don't give a rat's ass and don't care that their kids are bothering people.

Another FAIL.

Yes, it is a message board but people back up their opinions and beliefs with facts.

Facts and opinions can co-exist on a message board. The fact that it is a message board does not mean facts are not present.

So when you state an opinion as fact, as you did, expect that to be pointed out, especially when your opinion is contrary to the facts.
