I firmly believe that no matter what your situation is in life, "lifes what you make it"... I cant stand when people whine and cry about stupid shit when there are so many people who have problems they cant change, but these people live with the problem and deal with it in a positive manner because... LIFES WHAT YOU MAKE IT! ~~~~~ Oh that voice...incredible....there should be a musical instrument called George Michael... ~~~~~

This song makes me very emotional, sometimes I will seriously cry. Which is why I only listen to it sparingly.
Well, she's walking through the clouds,

Because I wanted to be there. And I am.:
Don't you want to be there? Don't you want to go?

Okay, this song seriously hits home and makes me cry when I hear it, but I love this song!
When things get me down, I have to tell myself that I am beautiful inside, and to just keep going. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

OK
this is cheeeeeeeesy....maybe not meeting your request for the thread. The song, imho, is terrible, but to those who like it...to each their own.
well anyways...we pulled one of those "Cosby Anniversary" things for my mom for a christmas gift. My pops is a man's man...he don't go around dancing and singing and pretending he's a performer or in a music video.
My mom LOOOOOOVED this song and was always listening to it in her car...LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOed...I mean LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVED this song.
So my pops rounded me, my bro and himself up and we learned the lyrics(not difficult....we'd don heard it so many times by then.... Well, we learned the lyrics, made some "dance" moves a la The Temptations....me my bro and my pops were dancing a routine, snappin fingers and beeing foolish in general. My ma broke into tears(the good kind fortunately).
so luckily, I turned a terrible song into a wonderful memory the my mother as well as me, my pops and my bro can share 4evah

I didn't think I had any song that was meaningful but after reading BobGeorge's post I remembered that once as kids with our parents in our living room were dancing to 'The Mashed Potato' so I guess that would qualify that as a meaningful song. My dad wanted our mom to show us that song from the old days because we had never seen that dance. lol I don't even know if I remember that dance though.

That's a nice story. And I don't think the song is terrible at all (I really like it!).

Mariah's "Can't Let Go"
This was the song I was listening to back in 1991 when I was going to consumate my relationship with my Boo. Whenever we were going thru issues and I would play that song or I heard it on the radio, he'd always call me within hours after I heard the song. It's kind of a magical song for me. And perfectly describes my feelings for him in a nutshell.
Phyllis Hyman "Meet Me On the Moon"
Again, describes my love for him in a nutshell. The lyrics speak for themselves.
Phyllis Hyman "Prime Of My Life"
I'm turning 40 in a few weeks. I've been going thru a lot of changes (some good, some not so great) and I'm actually excited about turning 40. I listened to this song over the weekend and the lyrics hit me hard and really spoke to what I'm feeling right now. I'm ready to finally lay claim to what I'm entitled to. I'm in the prime of my life and there's nothing I can't do, growing stronger everyday, moving mountains standing in my way.

I also have a special memory for that song. My current best friend, once boyfriend allways sung that song to me or played it when I was at his place. I loved it.
99% of my posts are ironic. Maybe this post sides with the other 1%.

Lately, it's been:
"So Fine" by Mint Condition This song in so many ways I feel describes me as a woman. I listen to it often when I'm feeling down and it lifts me up and reminds me of the valuable young woman that I am and that one day I'll meet the man who will look at me in the same way.
"Someone To Love" by Mint Condition This song totally describes what I'm wishing to have in my life.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

You always start the most thought-provoking, meaningful threads.
One of the songs that stands out as most meaningful, as it relates to my life today, is "Vincent" by Don McLean. A very, very dear friend of mine named John (who knew me better than anyone in the world - even my Mom) started telling me years ago that this song reminded him of me. I've bolded the parts of the lyrics that he specifically pointed out to me. John passed away on July 18, 2010 - exactly a year ago this coming Monday (on the same day that my oldest nephew passed away as well, thousands of miles apart in an unrelated incident). My buddy John was 71.
Starry, starry night.

Thanks but I can't take credit since this was asked of me.
Interesting choice... watching the video, is the song originally about Vincent Van Gosh as the video is showing all his paintings?
That is awsome... so your friend John perceived you as a good and beautiful person. Very nice!

I Wanna Be Your Lover
Nov. 7 1979
The day I became a Prince fan. Vicki Renee Winborn. The girl that made me a Prince fan.
I was crazy about her but I didn't have a car, I just had a job. We were supposed to ride to school together. I couldn't wait to call her that morning. There was a local radio station would play the same song every day at 7 a.m. for a month. This month it was Prince. I already knew the song, but when I kept calling and getting a busy signal I heard Prince talking about how I was feeling. After work I bought the 45. After listening to the B side, I wanted the album.
I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

Adore - Prince
This became 'our' song, the day I bought the CD home. We were listening to the album together. 'Adore' went straight to my heart. It's still 'our' song even though he's deceased. One song that won't be heard on the day I marry. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

What's a 45? (...just kiddin', I've got a stack of them in the closet going back to the 1960's - my big sister kept up with all the hits. One of the last 45's I personally bought was probably "Lover's Holiday" by Change or "JoJo" by Boz Scaggs. Feels good to hear someone else mention them though, lol).

Yes, the song was always about Vincent Van Gogh.
And yeah, John was originally a co-worker of mine in Los Angeles from over 20 years ago. Through the years he became something of a mentor of mine, and ultimately a very dear friend. He saw and understood me in ways no one else did. Although the last time we actually saw each other was in October of 1992, when he moved to Hawaii and I moved back to New York. But we never lost contact with each other. In fact, in the last 10 years or so, we spoke on the phone every single night for at least 2 hours! He guided me through some of the darkest times in my entire life, and I really miss not being able to run things by him since he left last year.
This is why Don McLean's "Vincent" came to me the second I saw your thread. May Big John be resting peacefully, he was the coolest guy I've ever known.

One is Forever In My Life, because it perfectly explains what I think true love should feel like. Its unbreakable hope, looking to the future, letting go of one's past in order to be with your love forever in your life. The simple beat and the perfect singing makes it even more sincere. It's a perfect song.
The other song (right now) is Pretty Wings by Maxwell.
It's important to let go of something/someone you love if you have to, even if you don't want to. You have to accept and live with the mistakes you made and you have to accept that people around you also make mistakes. Sometimes you do things for other people, even if that might hurt yourself.
