Let's talk about grey hair, yes I am THAT old actually I started getting grey hair when I was 21. Any of you colour your greys? If so, what product do you use? Do you do it yourself or do you get it done professionally? I am really struggling with my hair colour issues at the moment. About 4 1/2 years ago I started colouring my hair dark, same as my natural roots. My hair grows really fast. So trying to keep up with dark blonde/light brown hair was pointless once I moved away from the sunshine state. Now my natural hair is 60% dark dull brown and 40% grey. I just did my permanent colour two weeks and one day ago. Today I woke to sparkling grey roots already.
Maybe buying a wig would be more cost effective and less time consuming. I want to go back to highlights on top to just break up and hide the grey but it is really hard to do yourself. Anyone have any tips for hiding grey hair?

I too have some grey's... I color mine not only for that reason but as we age our color just isnt as vibrant anymore...
My daughter is a hairstylist so i have her do it for me whenever i need it done
Box color just wont cover the grey that nicely if you have 40% like you said... You need to get to a professional and use their grey series with a lower number developer... I wanna say she used a 10 but dont quote me, I have had no sparklies showing thru and its been at least a month since my last color! Usually it washes out from the grey since the texture is different and it doesnt hold the color as well...
Like i said tho, box color wasnt cutting it for me anymore, salons can be pricey but if your just getting an all over color with no foils or anything it shouldnt run you that bad... ~~~~~ Oh that voice...incredible....there should be a musical instrument called George Michael... ~~~~~

ugh! I fucking hate grey hair! I saw my first when I was 16! I shudder at the thought of how many I have and am always saying THANK GOD FOR HAIR DYE! I can't afford to get it done professionally so I do it myself about every 6 to 8 weeks. I go with the cheapest brand out there Revlon Colorsilk either dark brown or medium brown or something like that. It's usually around $4.00.

Yes, salon's are pricey. Especially when my grey roots are appearing after 2 weeks. My mom was a hairdresser and she used to do my hair. She used to do beautiful highlights for me. Now I have to pay £20 for a dry cut and well over £100 for a colour. I usually treat myself once a year to a colour just to even out the colours that I have done myself. I have been trying to wait until we move to lighten my hair again. I think I am going to have to go a bit lighter, this dark hair makes me feel really old on days like today when the greys have popped through again. Thanks Shorty for posting what you use. I trid the new colour mousses that are out here. Big mistake, they did not last long either and did not cover the greys.

I color, and have it professionally done. The last thing I need is hair that's "hot at the roots." We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

LOL I was good with the greys until I giot the kid, now I swear a new one sprouts up every day!! I don't color yet, because I have odd color hair and I tried dying it once and ended up with that Janet Jackson Velvet Rope red, plus it made my hair extremely frizzy!! Not cute!! My hair is kinda coming in silver, so it might be cute like my mom's was. I loved her silver hair.
Now Grandma makes me color her hair lol, even though she is about to be 88. I use Dark and Lovely and it looks really good on her. She has long hair that grows out fast though, but I don't stay on top of it since she isn't really going out every day. It doesn't seem to dry her hair or be too hars, so I will probably try that first if I do ever color.

Isn't that nice? My grays are coming in perfectly white - no yellow tones, at all - for which I'm very grateful. (My grandma - at 94 - still isn't completely gray. But she's never needed a "blue rinse" in her life.)
My grays are also the same texture as the rest of my hair - not wiry or kinky. So when I color, no one's the wiser based on texture.
I just hope I stay so lucky! We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I tried the mouse stuff too....I like the application better but..you're right it did not last as long. My mom tried it too and hated it...the color was all wrong for her. "not a fan"

I can only PRAY that I got his hair DNA because on my monther's side, they're all snow-white.

i am in the same boat...my hair is dark brown (almost black) so the grays really stands out. last time i coloured my hair was last november...it burns my scalp so i use a semi-permanent dye.
getting highlights is an option but i hate the upkeep. i am gonna colour it one shade lighter just b/c im bored with it.....the grey always comes back in a few wks...
i may just grow it out...SOMEDAY...lol

My facial hair is grey, and sometimes I shave it sometimes I don't. I see nothing wrong with it.

It is so unfair, I think it is a cruel joke. As I get older my natural hair gets darker and I get more greys.
I too have thought about letting it just grow out then I go four weeks and feel like such a hag that I give in and colour it. I won't even make 2 1/2 weeks this time.

Try to think positively. Perhaps you're not an old person at all? Perhaps you're just a very very young Joshua tree.

Mine is probably about 60% white now and a total bitch to colour. It is shiny and healthy looking...I just hate the colour!!

Are you still blonde? I am hating my colour too. Our water is chalky and makes my hair dull and dry. Seriously, it is like straw. Grrr! Maybe I do need a wig!

You are a dude. Dudes look fine with grey hair and grey facial hair.

I've got grey hair coming in as well. My hair still looks black, but if you look carefully, you can still see strands.
I'm not very concerned about it though because of my baby soft cocoa butter skin.

Again, you are a dude so you will look just fine. AND with the cocoa butter skin, that is a bonus.

I may have like 25 %
I use Henna once a month ~ as close to my natural colour as possible
It covers the silvers and makes my hair shinny and healthy

I have blonde hair but I do have some greys coming in the past few years. I get hi-lites 3 times a year and that seems to keep the greys blended well with my natural blonde hair.

They may look fine, but it's questionable whether it helps them in a down economy. Especially if they're over 50. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I buy a bottle of Loreal Preference (Mega Reds~Medium Intense Copper Red) and mix it with a 20 volume developer. I've been going grey since 16 years old. I used to do it every 6-8 wks but now that I'm older, my roots seem to be growing faster and my temples are more stubborn. So I do it about every 4 weeks. My rule of thumb is if I can see the grey in pictures then it's time for me to get my roots done. Other than that, learn to love hats, headbands, comb overs... Shake it til ya make it

I’m blessed in the hair department. I have no greys yet and my stylist is a dear friend who gives me a significant discount on his services.
My mom is about 75% grey but my dad still only has a few silver hairs around his temples (though, he’s been balding for as long as I can remember and only has that patch of hair around the sides and back now). I’m thinking I’m gonna take after my dad. Hopefully, I won’t go bald too. |

I love my natural highlights; have had bits of grey since I was in my late teens I don't colour them "I know that living with u baby, was sometimes hard...but I'm willing 2 give it another try.

In the early 1990s, I used to dye my hair an entirely different color every time the roots started showing. I would go from extremes from blue black to platinum blonde. In the late 1990s, I developed an allergy to all hair dyes, even the temporary ones that would result in burns on my scalp and puss oozing all over my scalp which would result in a trip to the emergency room. That happened three times until I gave up and stopped doing it.
I had very little gray then, I was just doing it to be wild and fashionable. I have plenty of gray now and hate it but can't do anything about it. I've gotten to where I don't care though. As long as I don't have gray hair on my dick, I'm fine with it. But if that hair ever turns gray, I'll just get some dark colored weave for it. Andy is a four letter word.

I was waiting for someone to suggest a hat. I look horrible in hats. I have a tiny head and small features.
I want CarrieMpls hair!
I think I am struggling with this issue because I was always known for my lovely hair. It was the only thing I used to get compliments on. Now I feel like I have had a bad hair day consistantly for about a year now.
