I hate myself right now.....ugh.

I already told you about my cousin...alright, so, I usually talk to them at least 2-3 times a month, just to check on 'em, they live about 50 miles from me ( houston is so damn big). ANyhow, I called my cousin the other day and he said my aunt had been in the hospital since june 12...Well damn! i thought.

I called the hospital because 'ren couldnt tell me much more than she had an operation on her neck it swole up but now shes stable....wtf is stable? sounds like aholding pattern to me...disbelief so i called the hospital and the nurse sounds like he is ultra tired and somewhat aloof and he's speaking in code telling me i need a password to get information about my aunt, otherwise, she's doing well. damn.

I dont want to call my cousin and ASK FOR A PASSWORD.....and now im afraid to go see her to boot.

why do i find out after people are already in the hospital....i feel like im in between a rock and hard place......

Unfortunately, in health care there are privacy laws that we have to follow, so it is normal for family members to be given a password to use to get updates over the phone.

Generally when the doctors refer to someone as "stable" it means that their monitoring of their vital organs are functioning as they should be, so your aunt should be awake with no indication that the surgery caused any difficulty to her heart, brain, kidneys, etc. It is normal for there to be swelling around a surgical site. Since she had surgery on her neck, it is possible that the swelling could put pressure on her spinal cord, which could cause pain or numbness.

The best thing you can do is find out if she can receive visitors and go see her yourself, if you are able to. That would alleviate some of your fears and I'm sure she would love to know that you care enough to check on her! If you aren't able to visit, you will have to go through her closest relative (son or husband) to get the updates or to get the hospital password.

Best wishes to you and your aunt!

Ya, go see her.

I've been through something similar in my family. The one persom who knew my Grandmother was sick and in the hospital didn't bother telling anyone until she was already dead, and they had, had time to clean out all of her belongings from her house!

Just for peace of mind I'd go check it out. Not saying that is what is happening, but atleast you'll get to visit with her. smile

I've reached in darkness and come out with treasure
I layed down with love and I woke up with lies
Whats it all worth only the heart can measure
It's not whats in the mirror but what's left inside
