I've just been diagnosed with TMJ

This sucks. My doctor told me I can't open my mouth very wide anymore and I can't eat hard things.

Now what the fuck am I going to do? wink

So anyway, anyone else here have TMJ? And if yes, what do you do to help it?

I think you will need to offer therapy to the many men who will now feel neglected, due to your affliction. biggrin

"TMJ" stands for temporomandibular joint, or the jaw joint. The TMJs are the small joints in front of each ear that attach the lower jaw (mandible) to the skull. They allow you to perform such functions as opening and closing your mouth, chewing, speaking, swallowing, etc.

At night I grind my teeth so I need a mouth guard and that's $300. Insurance won't cover it.

Also whenever I eat my jaw cracks something wicked...and hurts like hell. It's very loud, my friends get grossed out when they hear it.

Oh my goodness, you have it bad... My friend Eric's jaw cracks when he chews... And it is gross! But the good thing is that they can repair it...

Umm, maybe Supa has hints on how to unhinge your jaw! smile

So you can't open your mouth very wide and you can't keep hard things in it.

I had a feeling that you had this...remember your thread about you grinding your teeth?
I would suggest getting one of those sport mouthguards (like football players wear) -- it might be cheaper than the $300 one the docs want you to get (damn, is it gold-plated or what?)
Don't worry about your "speciality" ...they like it better when you don't open your mouth as wide wink so you're safe.
