Anyone on Tumblr?

If you wanna follow mine, the link is in my sig.

I post a lot about Prince, music, tech.... just things that interest me really biggrin

It's been around for a few years but I think it's really gonna take off within the next 12 months. Basically, for the benefit of those who don't know... it's like the exact mid-point between Twitter and a traditional blog format.

So, generally speaking each post you make is typically multimedia in some form - usually images, video, or audio, and whatever comments you want to make, etc. But keeping things short is encouraged, you don't really see massive articles or diatribes like you would on a traditional blog. Now, you can also follow peoples Tumblogs that you find interesting, and when you login to Tumblr, you have a Dashboard which is a stream of all the posts from the Tumblogs you follow - so it's like Twitter in that regard. Also, you can "Reblog" posts from other people, so they'll appear on your blog, and credited to the source that you reblogged them from. So things that are popular can go viral extremely quickly, which is the advantage it has over traditional blogs.

You can also track certain tags of subjects you're interested in and it will display all the posts on Tumblr that contain that tag. I have about 20 tags I'm tracking, include "Prince", "Michael Jackson", "Vegan", etc... so at any time I can click on one of those tags and see all the latest posts about whatever that subject might be.

MTV have just hopped on the trend smile http://mtv.tumblr.com

I've been fascinated and back and forth on this for a bit now. Now that I've finally got the swing of Twitter I think I'm gonna give this a shot too.

I first heard of Tumblr almost a year ago I think. What I love about it is it's extremely customizable, even more so than MySpace was in how it allows you to manipulate the CSS/HTML in order to create the page EXACTLY as you'd want it to be. Moreover, there are none of the restrictions that MySpace had, and you can post all sorts of content.

I'm known as Brother Man on Tumblr & Twitter. While I maintain a moderately high level of anonymity on most of my online accounts, Tumblr probably offers the closest view of who I am as a total person. I basically write about all sorts of experiences and phenomena. All the Graphic Art (including Flash) and Web Design is all mine. I also have a feed from prince.org coming into it, and just added VainAndy's podcast to the feeds as well. I even have a media player set up where I play WHATEVER MUSIC I LIKE (320kbps constant bit rate MP3's - hosted on a private server, of course). I have plans in the near future to release more material there, including some of my music and video projects.

What's also cool to me is that it doesn't seem to be in competition with anyone, certainly not Facebook. The beauty of Tumblr is that you can incorporate as much or as little of all that other social media stuff as you like. Got something you'd like to share with me?

Awesome! Just followed both you guys cos I liked what I saw smile

Another thing I like it's that it doesn't force you into a "numbers game" like Twitter/Facebook, where the amount of people that follow you is prominently displayed. I don't like that kind of thing, I only care about good content.

Unless something has recently changed, I think you may have misinterpreted something about the registration process. Where it says "URL", you make something up and put it there. Whatever you put in that box becomes the end part of your Tumblr address.

Very possible. I'm internet tech challenged.

I'll give it another try. Next month.

I just edited my response to you above. Where it says "URL", it's asking you to make up something, anything. Whatever you put in that box becomes part of your Tumblr address. It's super easy, limited only by your imagination.

I'm not sure what a usability test is, but I suppose Tumblr can't be for everyone. Obviously you've found an Internet home here at prince.org that you're comfortable with. This is one of my favorite spots on the net, for sure.

It don't cost you a penny to make a site. Once you enter the name of the site you wanna name it to, that's it! lol

I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. grandpa lol

I liked yours too and am following. cool

And thanks for posting this thread. It gave me the lil' push I needed to get going on this. I really think I 'll get the hang of it fairly quick and have a lot of fun with it. I like how I can combine all my other stuff in there (or not) also.

I've been thinking whether to do a separate one for my Erotic Pop art but maybe this is the spot to throw it all in together as I already keep separate blogs and shops for my non-erotic and erotic work.

That's the thing, I'm like 75% leaning towards mixing it all up, but if I did a separate one for my erotic art, I'd also post random smut I find hot or inspiring. Not sure I'd do that on the other. hmmm

Thanks man! biggrin I think you're a very talented artist, and have always admired your humor and wit.

Yeah, I need to go back and check my settings to allow others to comment. When I set things up initially, I usually switch everything to STEALTH MODE, lol. I need to learn to lighten up, lol.

Thanks for the feedback, I value your opinion.
