It would depend on circumstances.

What if your best friend was married, had an affair leading to a divorce, and then you fell in love with that partner?

What if your best friend died? And ten years later you meet up by chance with their ex-partner?

What if three years after the break up of your best friend's relationship (both parties realised it wasn't working), you met that partner at a party and things started from there. Meanwhile, both your best friend and their (now) ex-partner look back on that relationship (with some regret, but largely with humour) as an unmitigated disaster and a bad (shared) decision taken when they were both less mature. Your best friend is now happily married with a child, to whom you are a god-parent? Everyone still remains the best of friends.

These may seem like extreme cicumstances, but life is a rish tapestry. In general, I can't imagine myself dating the ex-partner of a best friend some 5 minutes after the break-up, but I can imagine all sorts of possibilities.

Then again, I no longer date.

I was gonna say something like that somewhat... like what if you knew the relationship wasn't all that serious, but you really dig the guy and y'all have more in common then ur the relative or bestifriend he/she had... would it still be wrong ?
