Well I just mentioned it on a later post and not on my original list, but I think I was the first one who mentioned it on the thread. I have travelled to about 20 countries in my life and not all places I have been to were outstanding. But like I said I just had higher expectations for NYC than for other places I have travelled to.
Then you did not answer the question truthfully.
I did because I just mentioned it as not living up to my expectations of being exotic. I had German cities as the least exotic places. If it wasn't for the somehow funny name I don't think here in Austria many people would even know it existed. And even with the name quite some people probably don't. They probably should formally rename it Rapa Nui as it SHOULD be called.

Tunisia sounds like a great destination
It can be. But the level of poverty in some of the less developed areas can be jolting. There are moments there where you also feel like you're in a time warp from biblical times. There are other moments when you see rich and poor side by side, with everybody playing the everyman just trying to get their hustle and grind on just like you imagine any person in any metropolitan area area, just within the context of their own culture (so instead of the Barney's perfume spritzer girl, you get the exotic scented oil salesperson in the marketplace in a sea of spices), and then you see how similar we are reagardless of country. The boys are foine in Tunesia, and a lot of them have the kind of swag that reminds you of the boys in Spanish Harlem. It's a very paradoxical environment...I remember all the cute Muslim girls with their breezy silk outfits & perfect make-up, riding their Vespas in Manolo Blahnik sandals with billowing headscarves blowing in the wind.
You do get moment out of that place that are definitely like something out of a dream. one of the only drawbacks I can recall though, is that as a muslim country that doesn't condone alcohol sales outside of your hotel or a restaurant, that country's drier than a redneck Georgia backwoods church picnic at 2pm on Sunday afternoon. |

Yes I went on the cable
Least exotic, Balclutha South Otago New Zealand, went there on a daytrip when I was staying Dunedin, on a Sunday everything closed including the dairy (7eleven or general store to all you Yanks). Balclutha has 2,000 people but the mainstreet looked like tumbling tumbleweeds
[img:$uid]http://i51.tinypic.com/116symh.jpg[/img:$uid]
This is a midwinter shot, but summer it dosen't look different except shorter shadows and leaves on the trees

It was, at one part you are 500 metres above the gully, Balclutha's main attraction on the other hand is a ferro concrete bridge built in 1916, with 3 semicircular arches. Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name |

I went through Balclutha a couple of years ago. It's kind of the gateway to the Caitlins and I thought Kaka Point Beach and Nugget Point were stunning. Ok, it's not in Balclutha but it's the closest town. I'd definitely have a place in the Caitlins if I could.

I can't scuba (not a good swimmer) but I have snorkeled twice (Cancun and Puerto Rico).
If it weren't for those lethal little box jellyfish that you have out there, the Great Barrier Reef would be on my bucket list as well! By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory! |

Listen - I know it's unreasonable...but after seeing a program on the Discovery channel about those things, I can't imagine doing it!

Just like surfing in California or swimming in a lake in Florida. Yeah, thousands of people do it a day...but the slight chance of having a limb bitten off (or worse) by a shark or a crocodile is enough to make me stay away.

But of course - when SCNDLS takes me up on my offer to be her cabana boy and takes me along on one of her fab trips...I'll be snorkeling, surfing and swimming like a muthafkr!!! By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory! |
