As a thread, or to mochalox? Not that this thread is about mochalox.

As a thread.

We're dealing with only reality here.

But only you and I like our Thai-centric threads. Remember that time when we worked Thailand into nearly every thread we posted on? lol

Besides, I don't do exciting, ill-advised stuff anymore and wind up in odd places in the middle of the night. Not since Voldamort told me I was bi, took umbrage with my friendship with his wife and threatened her over having contact with my 'deviant' wife and I. neutral

It really is.

I've decided I want to settle down here. It's just such a wonderful place, minus the stuff I hate.

Just the fact that the most powereful political position in the country is being headed by a puppet with no credentials makes this entire trip here.....VERY ENTERTAINING

I'm taking a break from even thinking about it, let alone reading about it. It's incredible (to me, not to older Thais I'm sure) what's gone down during just 10 years while I've been here though.

You know what. I was just talking abou this the other day to a Burmese friend of mine, but we both mentioned how if we had to go back "home", we'd feel completely awkward.

Sure the familiarity of Tampa's streets and shops would be comforting, but after sitting down and talking to the locals and old friends, I woudl realize that I've moved beyond them. That I've sort of outgrown them. There is something really strange about being in an International environment or about being an ex-pat. You absorb some of the chaos of other places, and it sort of cuts the umbilical chord to your motherland.

I feel very detached from many local attitudes and happenings now.

I mean, I read some of the stuff on the org here, and how 'local' some people's attitudes, hangups, quirks are, and I'm just sort of happy I'm not stuck in the muck of that.

I wish travel was uber cheap and environmentally friendly. I think everybody should spend Loooooong ass amounts of time away from home---you only grow from it.

Last time I was in the UK I felt weird. That was 3 years ago and it'll only be more weird the next time I go back. It's not that I'm better in any way, or that Thailand's better than the UK, but if I go to the pub and chat with some old mates it's just like my world is bigger or something. Maybe that's not it. I can't really explain it. I've just traded one country for another so I'm more engaged, more aware in this one than the one I was born in, but there is something there like having a wider perspective or something. I mean, I may not keep up with current events in the UK that much of late, but I did grow up there so it's not completely alien to me, and then I've seen other places on top of that. I've lived a completely different way of life, like 2 good portions of different lives, plus extra little experiences. Something like that. lol
