General Discussion Posters! How often do YOU listen to Prince?

Since I joined the org, I have gone from rabid Prince-aholic to "every now and then" listener. At the time of my joining, I was busy buying the whole back catalogue and wanted to know everything I could.

But that time has gone.

I post very little now in the Prince music forum.

But I think it's great that even though we don't rave about Prince all the time here in the GD, we all pretty much respect the man and some would go so far as to say they love him.

Or am I wrong?

Are there people here who don't even like him anymore let alone listen to him?

I'd like as many answers to this question as possible, because although I think you are all great, I just wanna know if you still dig the guy.

Cheers.

I do still dig the guy and his music of course... TRC has spent a LONG time in my CD player. However there has been a bit of a drought of new music so I gotta fill the gaps somehow smile I listen to lots of stuff and not just Prince. Lately I've been digging out all my old soul albums and replacing them on CD - Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Curtis Mayfield, Stevie Wonder etc. And there have been new albums from Common and The Roots to keep me busy!

I must say there is about half of ONA Live that I just don't dig... mostly the sappy ballads. I like the TRC material live, that sounds great, and I like the aftershow disk but that's about it...

mrdespues, I recommend that you incorporate a duck duck into your posts. That's seems to have an electric effect on the Org. razz

It comes and goes with the tide. Since I hang here I enjoy compiling tapes as posted by TRON and MOONBEAM.

Since I have a MD I tape my CD's onto MD and remaster the sounds volume somewhat louder and get that richer sound. Urging me to tape those ballad MD's, them rock MD's with Prince songs that work so well together for certain moods.

And after having experienced a very good concert in Paris, I have fun listening to the recording of that tape. That I got for FREE from a very lovely lady.

For me collecting is sharing.

And since that HITS 3 compilation as provided to me by the Renner guyz, I just cannot put Private Joy down. It travels with me in my head and I keep on singing it all of the time...

Only if I want to be lonely.

It's like watching porn.

Nowhere close to the real action.
You always know what happens next.
People shake their heads when you tell them.

Jaded already, huh? If that's really the case then your insight and analytical capacity (as a musician) will be sorely missed at the Music and More forum.

I don't listen to Prince much these days simply because I felt so ripped off with the NPGMC and it kind of puts you off somebody when you feel that you've been cheated by them. Also, to my ears, ONA Live is pretty dull and contains just bland re-workings of his songs with distant, almost non-audible crowd noise in the background. The only song of interest is Xenophobia, because it was the only thing on it that felt like a new song.

Some of the old Prince stuff will still get the odd listen, though.

Yup, I still listen. I just recently burned all of the ahdio shows from year 1 of the NPGMC so that's what I've been listening to now. They were on my computer at work for the longest time, now I have them on cd.

I've been listening to a lot of Skinny Puppy and Ministry lately...I go through phases with what I listen to. Last month I would only listen to Snoop or Missy...nothing else.

I listen 2 Prince every now and then, and when I do it's always something old like 1999 or the countroversy album. I think alot of Prince older albums had a lot of great material that a inspiring artist such as myself can learn from. Til this day when I hear the Prince album I'm always amazed at how he's playing almost all the insturments on most tracks, wrote most of the lyrics and produce the album before he was in his 20's. You just don't see alot of that these dayz... so whenever I get tired of the over commercialized crap that's played on the radio these dayz I dig up my old Prince albums that I love so much smile, I wasn't diggin' TRC as much as Rave un2 the joy fantastic.
The deep voice narrating kinda freaked me out wink
it still looks new and doesn't have one strech on it.

I listen to Prince nearly every day right now. It took me a while to relearn to enjoy music after my surgery, especially since they changed the sound completely every month. Now that's over, and I can finally enjoy some sonic stability. Familiarity is key, so I naturally listen to music I know extremely well. But I've started buying new records, such as those by Shuggie Otis or Allen Toussaint.

Rarely lately, but I go through phases with everybody I listen to, not just Prince. It has to be that way; there's a world of great music out there.
